Chromite Ore Mines:

The Company has a Captive Chrome Ore Mine in Sukinda Valley in Jajpur District of Orissa which is about 170 kms. from our plant. The mine takes care of the Chrome Ore requirement of the Company.
Manganese Ore Mines :
The company has been allotted Manganese ore mines at Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh. The produce from mines of Balaghat Sector is coveted for its low Phos and Low Fe content. Commercial operation in the said mines has commenced and full fledged operation is expected very soon.

Mineral Beneficiation Plants

Chrome Ore Beneficiation Plant :

Chromite Ore fines extracted from the mine is fed into the Beneficiation Plant where the entrenched waste is separated from the ore. Waste is separated by dense medium separation and concentrate material is separated through a spiral centrifugal water process. Fine waste is separated in a thickener and the sludge is pumped to a tailings dam. No effluent is discharged out of the plant premises. This is yet another major initiative taken but the company towards environmental protection.

Ferro Chrome

Ferrochrome (FeCr) is an alloy of chromium and iron containing between 50% and 70% chromium. The Producer od stainless steel & tool steel are the largest consumer of ferrochrome and charge chrome.It is chromium that confers upon stainless steel its remarkable corrosion resistance.

Out of the total world chrome ore output about 95% is used to produce ferrochrome for the metallurgical industry, with 2% used in chemical industry and the balance 3% in the refractory and foundry industry. Later majority of which is used in Cast Iron, Alloy Steels & Stainless Steel.

Metal Recovery Facilities

The Company has developed state-of-the-art ‘Metal Recovery Plant’ with imported as well as indigenous technology (Jigging Systems) controlled by Programmable Logic Controllers. These metal recovery plants are used to recover the entrapped metal (ferrochrome) from the slag generated during the production of Ferro Chrome and Charge Chrome.

The slag, which has a metallic content of approximately 4 percent, is passed through crushing units and broken down to minus 15 mm material. This crushed material then passes through the jigging plant where the chrome and slag are separated by means of gravity. The slag chips known as tailings are sold away for pit filling or road building or even for construction purpose. This facility is a major initiative taken by the company towards waste recovery and environmental protection.

Technology Adoption

The company adopts the most advanced technologies into its manufacturing process to ensure desired quality of its products. The advanced process technology and sophisticated equipment have been acquired from World leaders of Metals & Ferro Alloy equipment like ELKEM, MINTEK, Tenova-Pyromet.

The manufacturing process is fully automated using advanced control systems acquired from Rockwell Automation. SCADA systems were introduced way back in 1989 and same has been upgraded to new generation “control Logix” system of Rockwell Automation 2007 to facilitate operation of furnace electrode, weighing and batching system to maintain the consistency of the operation.

A highly sophisticated real-time computerized system enables better monitoring and control of all aspects of furnace operation. Sophisticated web-based real-time monitoring systems enable the production team to monitor the process from anywhere across the globe.

The manufacturing process is power intensive and power is sourced from the regional grid. The company has a full fledged automated “Metal Recovery Plant” to extract the entrapped metal from slag which is a major initiative in waste recovery and environmental protection. The company also has an automated Chrome Ore Beneficiation plant to enrich low grade Chromite ore with a throughput of 20 MT/Hr at its Mines.

Closed Circuit TVs has been installed at various strategic locations of the plant not only to monitor the processes but also to monitor the safety of man and machine.

In the area of business process, the company has implemented SAP ECC 6.0 and BI/BO to meet the changing & growing needs of the business.
