Mokara is an artificial hybrid generic name. It derives from the combination of (Arachnis X Ascocentrum X Vanda). The first Mokara Hybrid was Mokara Wai Liang ("Arachnis Isable X Ascocenda Red Gem). It is named after C.Y.Mok of Singapore, who registered the first such hybrid in 1969.The plant form is a combination of those in the three parent genera. In general, it seems very similar to that of Aranda. Mokara Hybrids are now the more popular cut-flowers when considering the non- dendrobium type flowers. Cultivation and propagation are very similar to those for the arandas. The first Mokara hybrid was called Mokara Wai Liang, named after C.Y. Mok of Singapore. This hearty hybrid has a unique flower shape and the potential to last up to two or three weeks in the vase with proper care.

Carnations are also commonly referred to by their scientific name, "Dianthus", the name given by the Greek botanist Theopharastus. Carnations got the name Dianthus from two Greek Words - "dios", referring to the god Zeus, and "anthos", meaning flower. Carnations are thus known as the "The Flowers of God". Carnations are bisexual flowers and bloom simply or in a branched or forked cluster. The stamens on Carnations can occur in one or two whorls, in equal number or twice the number of the petals. The Carnation leaves are narrow and stalk less and their colour varies from green to grey-blue or purple. Carnations grow big, full blooms on strong, straight stems.
