Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccine is a vaccine primarily used against tuberculosis. In countries where tuberculosis is common, one dose is recommended in healthy babies as close to the time of birth as possible.Babies with HIV/AIDS should not be vaccinated. In areas where tuberculosis is not common, only children at high risk are typically immunized, while suspected cases of tuberculosis are individually tested for and treated.^[1] Adults who do not have tuberculosis and have not been previously immunized but are frequently exposed to drug-resistant tuberculosis may be immunized as well. The vaccine is also often used as part of the treatment of bladder cancer

Voriconazole, sold under the brand name Vfend among others, is an antifungal medication used to treat a number of fungal infections.^[3] This includes aspergillosis, candidiasis, coccidioidomycosis, histoplasmosis, penicilliosis, and infections by Scedosporium or Fusarium.^[3] It can be taken by mouth or used by injection into a vein.^[3]

Common side effects include vision problems, nausea, abdominal pain, rash, headache, and seeing or hearing things that are not present.^[3] Use during pregnancy may result in harm to the baby.^[3] It is in the triazole family of medications.^[3] It works by affecting the cell membrane or affecting fungal metabolism

Voriconazole is used to treat invasive aspergillosis and candidiasis and fungal infections caused by Scedosporium and Fusarium species, which may occur in immunocompromised patients, including people undergoing allogeneic bone marrow transplant (BMT), who have hematologic cancers or who undergo organ transplants.^{[8][9][10][11]}

It is also used to prevent fungal infection in people as they undergo BMT.^[10][8]

It is also the recommended treatment for the CNS fungal infections transmitted by epidural injection of contaminated steroids.^[12]

Benzylpenicillin, also known as penicillin G, is an antibiotic used to treat a number of bacterial infections.^[2] This includes pneumonia, strep throat, syphilis, necrotizing enterocolitis, diphtheria, gas gangrene, leptospirosis, cellulitis, and tetanus.^[2] It is not a first-line agent for pneumococcal meningitis.^[2] Benzylpenicillin is given by injection into a vein or muscle.^[1] Two long-acting forms benzathine benzylpenicillin and procaine benzylpenicillin are available for use by injection into a muscle.^[2]

Nystatin is used to treat fungal infections of the skin, mouth, and intestinal tract. Fungal medicines will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.

Nystatin comes as a tablet, capsule, and a liquid to take by mouth; a soft lozenge (pastille) to be dissolved slowly in the mouth; a tablet and vaginalcream to be inserted into the vaginaa; and in powder, ointment, and cream to be applied to the skin.

Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Use nystatin exactly as directed. Do not use more or less of it or use it more often than prescribed by your doctor.Nystatin liquid usually is used three to five times a day for mouth infections and three times a day for intestinal infections. Shake the bottle well before each use to mix the medication evenly. If you are using liquid nystatin for a mouth infection, place half of the dose in each side of the mouth and hold it there or swish it throughout the mouth for several minutes before swallowing. Good oral hygiene, including proper care of dentures, is important for the cure of mouth infections.

Liposomal amphotericin B (®; LAmB) is a unique lipid formulation of amphotericin B. LAmB is a standard of care for a wide range of medically important opportunistic fungal pathogens. LAmB has a significantly improved toxicity profile compared with conventional amphotericin B deoxycholate (dumb). Despite nearly 20 years of clinical use, the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of this agent, which differ considerably from DAmB, remain relatively poorly understood and underutilized in the clinical setting.

The molecular pharmacology, preclinical and clinical pharmacokinetics and clinical experience with LAmB for the most commonly encountered fungal pathogens are reviewed. In vitro, experimental animal models and human clinical trial data are summarized, and novel routes of administration and dosing schedules are discussed.

LAmB is a formulation that results in reduced toxicity as compared with DAmB while retaining the antifungal effect of the active agent. Its long terminal half-life and retention in tissues suggest that single or intermittent dosing regimens are feasible, and these should be actively investigated in both preclinical models and in clinical trials. Significant gaps remain in knowledge of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in special populations such as neonates and children, pregnant women and obese patients.

Capreomycin is an antibiotic which is given in combination with other antibiotics for the treatment of tuberculosis.^[1] Specifically it is a second line treatment used for active drug resistant tuberculosis.^[1] It is given by injection into a vein or muscle.^[1]

Common side effects include kidney problems, hearing problems, poor balance, and pain at the site of injection.^[1] Other side effects include paralysis resulting in the inability to breathe.^[1] It is not recommended with streptomycin or other medications that may damage the auditory vestibular nerve.^[1] It is not recommended during pregnancy as it may cause kidney or hearing problems in the baby.^[1] Capreomycin is commonly grouped with the aminoglycoside family of medications.^[2] How it works is unclear.

Ribavirin is used with an interferon medication such as peginterferon alfa-2a  or peginterferon alpha-2b [PEG-Intron]) to treat hepatitis C in people who have not been treated with an interferon before. Vincristine, also known as leurocristine and marketed under the brandname Oncovin among others, is a chemotherapymedication used to treat a number of types of cancer.^[5] This includes acute lymphocytic leukemia, acute myeloid leukemia, Hodgkin''s disease, neuroblastoma, and small cell lung cancer among others.^[5] It is given intravenously.^[5]

Most people experience some side effects from vincristine treatment.^[5] Commonly it causes a change in sensation, hair loss, constipation, difficulty walking, and headaches.^[5] Serious side effects may include neuropathic pain, lung damage, or low blood white cells.^[5] It will likely cause harm to the baby if given during pregnancy.^[5] It works by stopping cells from dividing properly.

 

The main side effects of vincristine are chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, hyponatremia, constipation, and hair loss.

Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy can be severe, and may be a reason to reduce or avoid using vincristine. The symptoms of this are progressive and enduring tingling numbness, pain and hypersensitivity to cold, beginning in the hands and feet and sometimes affecting the arms and legs

Tizanidine (trade names Zanaflex (Acorda Therapeutics), Sirdalud (Novartis), Relentus (Beximco Pharma) Is a centrally acting α₂ adrenergic agonist used as a muscle relaxant. It is used to treat the spasms, cramping, and tightness of muscles caused by medical problems such as multiple sclerosis, ALS, spastic diplegia, back pain, or certain other injuries to the spine or central nervous system. It is also prescribed off-label for migraine headaches, as a sleep aid, and as an anticonvulsant. It is also prescribed for some symptoms of fibromyalgia.^[2]

Tizanidine has been found to be as effective as other antispasmodic drugs and is more tolerable than baclofen and .^[3] Tizanidine can be very strong even at the 2 mg dose and may cause hypotension, so caution is advised when it is used in patients who have a history of orthostatic hypotension, or when switching from gel cap to tablet form and vice versa.

Arsenic trioxide is an inorganic compound with the formula As

3. This commercially important oxide of arsenic is the main precursor to other arsenic compounds, including organoarsenic compounds. Approximately 50,000 tonnes are produced annually.^[4] Many applications are controversial given the high toxicity of arsenic compounds.

Despite the well known toxicity of arsenic, arsenic trioxide has long been of biomedical interest, dating to traditional Chinese medicine, where it is known as pi-shuang (Chinese: ??????, Pinyin: p??shu??ng) and is still used to treat cancer and other conditions,^[5] and to homeopathy, where it is called arsenicum album.
