Dr. Fixit Samshield XL is a self-adhesive waterproofing membrane based on a tropical grade of polymer modified bitumen. The bitumen compound is laminated onto an impervious, non-perforated, cross laminated HDPE film. The membrane is protected on the self-adhesive side with a silicone coated release film. Dr. Fixit Samshield XL conforms to the requirement of BS 8102.

Areas of Application:
  • Dr. Fixit Samshield XL used as waterproofing and damp proofing intended for concrete protection. It may be used for horizontal and vertical application and as a damp proofing course for tanking below ground structures, subways and retaining walls.

Method of Application:
  • The application temperature should be between 4 0 C to 45 0 C. Application procedure may vary slightly depending upon site conditions. The general recommended guidelines for the application of the self-adhesive waterproofing system are as follows:

Surface Preparation:
  • The surface shall be cleaned thoroughly of all contaminants like dust, traces of curing compound, oil, and grease. All surface imperfections, protrusions, structurally unsound and friable concrete must be removed and repaired with a suitable concrete repair mortar.

  • Apply Dr. Fixit Bitushield Primer SB @ 4-6 sq.mtrs./litre to a clean, smooth and dry surface by brush or roller. Allow the primer to dry prior to the application of the membrane. As the viscosity of the primer is low, it easily penetrates into the concrete pores which promote the adhesion between the membrane and the concrete surface. In addition to that, the primer also acts as a binder for the dust which gets accumulated on the concrete surface even after cleaning.

  • Start the installation of all membrane plies from the low point or drain, so that the flow of water is over or parallel to the plies, but never against the laps. All overlaps at the membrane seams shall be installed so as to have “up” slope laps over “down” slope laps. Begin membrane application by unrolling the roll of Dr. Fixit Samshield XL membrane and aligning the side laps.


  • The membrane shall be protected immediately after application from damage, due to ongoing site activities or from sharp aggregates during backfilling by a tough, weather, warp and rot proof asphaltic protection board. Alternatively, on horizontal areas, the membrane can also be protected by laying a cement sand screed (50 mm).

  • Dr. Fixit Samshield XL membranes are supplied in rolls of 1m x 10mtrs. The rolls are packed in loose corrugated boxes to avoid damage during transit or during storage at sites. Care should be taken when storing the membranes on sites and should not be kept within close proximity of any sharp or protruding edges to avoid puncturing or damaging the membrane.

Dr. Fixit Flexshield E 45/ E 60 are EPDM rubber based prefabricated membrane. It is used for waterproofing & lining of above & underground concrete structures because it exhibits the high degree of resistance to water, ozone, UV, weathering, abrasion, extreme temperatures, acids, alkalis and oxygenated solvents. EPDM is an elastomeric polymer synthesized from ethylene, propylene and a small amount of diene monomer, compounded with carbon black, processing oils and various cross-linking and stabilizing agents. Surface Preparation:

  • The substrate needs to be sound, smooth, dry and free of sharp edges, loose or foreign materials, oil, grease, and laitance, etc. Mechanical surface preparation methods are strongly suggested to ensure proper adhesion of the membrane.
  • The expansion joints need to be properly attended prior to fixing of Dr. Fixit Flexshield E 45/ E 60. For further details contact Dr. Fixit.



  • Apply bonding adhesive, Dr. Fixit Flexshield E 45/ E 60 Adhesive on to the clean and prepared substrate, and also, on to the back of the membrane that has been folded.
  • Before applying Dr. Fixit Flexshield Bonding Adhesive, stir it in the container to achieve a uniform mix with no sediment at the bottom.
  • The adhesive must be then trowel applied in a thin even coat on a membrane and the substrate. An excess of adhesive will prolong the drying time.
  • Let the solvent evaporate naturally until the adhesive attains a tacky condition. Drying time will defer depending upon the climatic conditions and coverage rate. Never use a hot air dryer to accelerate the process.
  • In temperatures of 30 to 35°C, the drying time is approximately 5 to 10 minutes. Refer data sheet of Dr. Fixit Flexshield Bonding Adhesive for more details.
  • An overlap of 50–70 mm along the length or as specified is a must. A masking tape must be first stuck to the laid membrane.
  • Thoroughly roll on the overlapped area with a 50-70 mm wide metallic roller.


Precautions & Limitations:

  • The concrete or metallic substrate must be completely dry before taking up the application. If some moisture exists, it must be expelled with a blowtorch or a flame torch.
  • The roofing structure needs to be stable/sound enough to support the temporary loadings.
  • All surface voids greater than 5 mm wide shall be properly filled with suitable repair materials from the Dr. Fixit range.
  • Use the right bonding agent for the right purpose as directed above.

Dr. Fixit Torchshield AM are polyester reinforced, APP modified bitumen membranes, top surface is covered by a uniform layer of natural or coloured slate chippings and the underside is finished with a polyethylene film, has a lateral selvedge for overlapping is designed as a single layer for the installation of new or refurbished flat roofs (metal or prefabricated structures, walkable or non walkable terraces, domes or shed roofs) while also ensuring exceptional, proven performance.

Areas of Application:
  • Dr. Fixit Torchshield AM membranes are intended for use as a single layer roof waterproofing system on new or refurbishment works directly to existing substrates. The self-finished mineral surface provides a decorative and solar protective finish for the waterproofing membrane system.

Method of Application:

Surface Preparation:
  • All surfaces to receive Dr. Fixit Torchshield AM must be clean, dry and free from all contaminants that may affect the adhesion and performance of the membrane. Surfaces must be free of sharp projections and mechanical fixings must be well driven to prevent damage to the membrane. All surfaces must be primed with Dr. Fixit Bitushield Primer SB and left to dry completely prior to the application of the waterproofing.

  • Dr. Fixit Torchshield AM membranes are applied by a torch-on application using a standard roofer’s torch. The membranes should be heated carefully ensuring the PE film on the underside is completely removed as work proceeds and to ensure adequate adhesion to the substrate. All laps should be properly secured in its lap joints, during application ensuring that a continuous 5 mm bead of bitumen is extruded from all laps. Side laps must follow the manufactured mineral free selvage. In any case, side laps should be a minimum of 100 mm, with end laps of a minimum of 150 mm, when not using the granule-free roll end.

Application Tools and Equipment:
  • The tools and equipment required to apply Dr. Fixit Torchshield AM membrane include a gas torch with a related gas cylinder, a knife for cutting the membrane to size, and a trowel with a rounded tip. Protective gloves and goggles are necessary when using the gas torch.

Precautions & Limitations:
  • Any naked flame should be kept well away from gas cylinders.
  • When ignited the Dr. Fixit Torchshield should be watched at all times.
  • The torch should not be rested on finished roofing.
  • Extreme care should be taken when working near combustible materials or items which might be scorched by the gas flame.
  • Not to be applied in extreme cold climatic conditions (below 5˚C).
  • Not to be applied on damp/wet areas & areas subject to moisture restoration.
  • Do not overheat the Dr. Fixit Torchshield membrane i.e. avoid heating when it starts smoking.
  • The moisture content on the surface should not exceed 6% to overlay the membrane.
  • Use of a bitumen based primer is a must. For better results, use Dr. Fixit Torchshield Primer.

  • Store rolls upright in the dry area.
  • Store indoors in a ventilated area.
  • Keep rolls protected from exposure to heat, sun, cold and moisture.
  • Do not double stack rolls.
  • Do not store rolls on their sides.
  • Use care in the handling of the rolls.
  • Do not overload the roof. Stagger the rolls across the roof. Avoid excessive weight in a concentrated area.

Dr. Fixit Torchshield SP is a high-performance Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene (SBS) rubber modified bitumen membrane, reinforced with a polyester reinforcement. The addition of SBS rubber to bitumen increases the flow characteristics and improves the low-temperature flexibility and fatigue resistance of roofing bitumen membrane.

It is suitable for all types of waterproofing works including roofs, foundation works, basement tanking, where high flexibility and malleability are required.

Dr.Fixit Torchshield SP waterproofing membranes are reinforced with 160 grams non woven spun bond polyester reinforcement that gives the membrane dimensional stability and resistance to puncture. It is coated with a specially formulated mixture of SBS modified bitumen which makes the membrane resistant to water, atmospheric agents, and malleable at low temperature while retaining a high softening point.

Method of Application:

Surface Preparation:
  • Clean & remove dust, dirt, loose particles and an unsound substrate. Make the surface smooth, even & free from local depressions with polymer-modified mortar. Priming can be done over this the next day.

  • Apply one coat of a bitumen based primer Dr. Fixit Torchshield Primer on cleaned & leveled surface @ 3-5 sq. m. / litre / coat.

  • Unroll the Dr. Fixit Torchshield Roll after application of primer.
  • Align the roll correctly & re-roll it in alignment before torching.
  • Use gas burner to heat substrate & underside to softening points. When the embossing disappears, roll forward & press firmly against a substrate to bond from the lower end towards the higher end.
  • Keep overlap margin for minimum 100 mm.
  • Ensure that a constant flow of bitumen is maintained across the whole width of the Roll and that a bead of bitumen is extruded from each edge which demonstrates that a good seal has obtained. DO NOT flatten the bead with the trowel.
  • All angles & abutments upstands should be sealed with extra care to ensure perfect bondage. Seal the edges well into grooves & protect to seal with a polysulphide/polyurethane or a bitumastic sealant.
