Kathak

Get Latest Price

The term 'Kathak' has been derived form the Sanskrit word 'Katha', which means a story. The classical Indian dance form of Kathak originated in the northern regions of the country and is narrative in nature. Fast footwork (tatkar), spins (chakkar) and innovative use of bhav in abhinaya characterize Kathak. At ecstasy we have well qualified teachers and performers who are religiously taking this tradition forward and spreading the awareness about our own culture.

Kathak is one of the seven major classical Indian dance styles. The root of Kathak lies deep in ancient Indian culture in which dance had a special importance from the Vedic period. In those days dance was performed while singing prayers and praises of the God and nature and it's a known fact that our Rishi-Munis from ancient era had scientific knowledge about the art of dance.
In fact human body and dance has an unbroken relation. 'Narayati' means the rhythmic movements of human body has been named as dance. In the ancient tradition of India dance used to perform as a means to meditate about the God, nature and to get mental peace. When the element of entertainment was added it was called as folk dance.
If we go back about three thousand years back in Indian history we get a rich tradition of music-dance and sculptors. The proof of our rich cultural heritage is valuable manuscripts like Bharatmuni's Natyashastra and Abhinay darpan. Deep study of these volumes not only guide us the right path but also showcase the ideal way to lead a culturally prosperous life.
From Vedic period to Ramayan and Mahabharat era, we find the word mentioned as Kathak or kathik. In ancient period music-dance and play were combindly performed that was called "Tauryatrikam". Then the concept of temple was introduced and we find the dance platform in every ancient temple. In the past dance was performed in these temples with utmost devotion. In fact through the temple concept the propagation of dance was done in real sense.
The original creator of dance is Lord Shankara. In Kathak dance style we find a beautiful combination of Tandav and Lasya anga in Kathak. We find the Nrityabol 'Ta thei thei tat' in Kathak which is a combination of Lord Shankar's Veer-rasa mood 'Ta' and Parvatimata's soft note Thei. The other meaning refers that one can get the blessings of the God (e) by touching the sole (Ta) to the surface of the earth (thal).
Lord Krishna also propagated the art of dance through Ras Nritya. Many Natawari -Bol from this Ras-nritya are still performed in Kathak. The kathak performance is incomplete without a dance item of Radha-Krishna.

Bachata Dance

Bachata is a style of dance that originated in the Dominican Republic. It is danced widely all over the world but not identically. The basics to the dance are three-step with a Cuban hip motion, followed by a hip tap on the 4th beat just like in other Latin dances (salsa etc.). The knees should be slightly bent so the performer can sway the hips easier.
The movement of the hips is very important because it's a part of the soul of the dance. Generally controlled full body movement is crucially important in the dance, but most of it comes from the hips. In partnering, the lead can decide whether to perform in open or closed position. Dance moves, or step variety, during performance strongly depends on the music (such as the rhythms played by the different instruments), setting, mood, and interpretation. Unlike Salsa (the most traditional Latin Dance), Bachata does not require many complex turns; although they are very well used when the musicality is understood and interpreted correctly.
The leading is done just like in most other dances, with a “pushing and pulling” hand communication. If this is done correctly, the follower should clearly understand the intended direction. Although there is a lot of body movement in Bachata dancing, the hand communication is better understood when most of the movement is performed by the lower body (from waist down); i.e. hips and footwork.

Contemporary dance is a genre of concert dance that employs compositional philosophy, rather than choreography, to guide unchoreographed movement. It uses dance techniques and methods found in ballet, modern dance and postmodern dance, and it also draws from other philosophies of movement that are outside the realm of classical dance technique. The term "contemporary dance" is sometimes used to describe dance that is not classical jazz or traditional folk/cultural dance. The hallmark of contemporary dance is an awareness of the limitations of for. Sub-genres recently defined by dance critics include non-dance, conceptual dance and pedestrian contemporary
Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. Contemporary dance stresses versatility and improvisation, unlike the strict, structured nature of ballet. Contemporary dancers focus on floorwork, using gravity to pull them down to the floor. This dance genre is often done in bare feet. Contemporary dance can be performed to many different styles of music.
