Fluconazole is a broad-spectrum antifungal agent belonging to the triazole class of drugs. It is used to treat and prevent a variety of fungal and yeast infections, including candidiasis (oral, esophageal, and vaginal), cryptococcal meningitis, and other systemic fungal infections. Fluconazole works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, a key component of fungal cell membranes, thereby disrupting fungal cell structure and inhibiting growth.
