Animal Cell Model Description
An animal cell model is a visual or physical representation of the structure of an animal cell. It helps us understand the different parts of the cell and their functions. Unlike plant cells, animal cells are usually round or irregular in shape and do not have a cell wall or chloroplasts.
The model shows the cell membrane as the outer boundary that protects the cell and controls what goes in and out. Inside the membrane is a jelly-like substance called cytoplasm, where all the organelles are suspended.
At the center of the cell is the nucleus, which acts like the brain of the cell. It contains genetic material (DNA) and controls all cell activities. Inside the nucleus is the nucleolus, which makes ribosomes.
Scattered throughout the cytoplasm are mitochondria, known as the "powerhouses" of the cell, because they produce energy. The endoplasmic reticulum (ER), both rough (with ribosomes) and smooth, transports materials throughout the cell. The Golgi apparatus packages and sends out proteins.
