Most versatile and single largest branch in engineering, Civil Engineering has grown over the years to cater the basic needs of humans. The Civil Engineering department of HCET strives to produce quality civil engineers and there by moulding them to become the backbone in the nation's development

The department has an intake of 60 students in an academic year. Well-equipped labs and availability of trained manpower caters to all needs of the students. Also the labs are well set up to take up external consultancy work in Civil Engineering. The Labs are being developed further to cater the needs of research activities of the college.The faculties of the department are professionally qualified, dedicated and well trained for the overall development of the students. There is a well-established staff advisory system which helps to maintain a healthy student teacher relationship. A staff advisor will be in charge of 20 students, so as to give individual attention to the students. The faculty members are trained each year through short term faculty development programme to update their knowledge and teaching skills. Industrial visits are instrumental in understanding the theoretical concepts and acclimatizing the students with the current industrial environment. Periodic visits are arranged to such industries to gain a hand - on - site experience and to interact with professionals. Technical talks of eminent personalities from various fields are arranged for the students to keep them updated about the recent developments in Civil Engineering. "TRIODCE," the Civil Engineering association of HCET inaugurated by Padmasree G.Shankar on February 2012, stands as a foundation for developing the students into technically competent and socially committed citizens. The Civil Engineering Association organises technical seminars by the students as well as by eminent personalities for igniting confidence among students. Also the association intents to take up the works related to overall improvement of quality of living standards of the surrounding people by giving them the technical assistance related to construction of low cost building, economical disposal of organic waste produced in the houses, production of biogas from organic waste etc. In addition to above, the association proposes to conduct social activities such as giving education for economically and socially backward students, free medical camps etc.

The Mechanical Engineering Department established in the year 2010 is conducting four year B.Tech course consisting of 8 semesters as per the syllabus of University of Kerala. Students learn fundamental subjects like Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Mechanics of Solids, Thermal engineering, Metallurgy and Material science, Theory of machines, Machine Drawing, Manufacturing Engineering and advanced subjects like, Computer Aided Design, Computer Aided Manufacturing, Finite Element Analysis, Mechatronics, Metrology and Instrumentation, Automobile engineering, Machine Design, Refrigeration and air-conditioning.

The Engineering workshop and laboratories in the department are well equipped with latest machines. The laboratory facilities and working atmosphere provides excellent opportunities to the mechanical students to have hands on experience and practical knowledge. The following are the lab facilities available in the department.

•  Fluid Mechanics lab - Notch apparatus, Orifice apparatus, Reynolds apparatus, Orifice meter, Venturi meter, Pipe Friction apparatus, Hydraulic Ram, Meta Centric Height apparatus.

•  Hydraulic Machines - Pelton Wheel Turbine, Francis Turbine , Kaplan Turbine , Reciprocating Pump, Constant Speed Centrifugal Pump, Multi Speed Centrifugal Pump, Double End Suction Centrifugal Pump.

•  Heat Engines lab - Single Cylinder 2 Stroke Petrol engine with electrical loading, Single Cylinder 4 stroke Diesel engine with Rope Brake Dynamometer, Four cylinder 4 stroke Diesel Engine with Rope Brake Dynamometer, Twin Cylinder 4 stroke Diesel Engine with Hydraulic Dynamometer, Four cylinder four stroke petrol engine, Cut Model of Single Cylinder Diesel Engine, Cut Model of Single Cylinder 4 stroke Petrol Engine, Bomb Calorimeter, Gas Calorimeter, Redwood Viscometer, Flash & Fire Point apparatus, Air Compressors, Air Blower

•  Production Engineering and Machine Tools Lab - 22 lathes, 10 shaping machines, 2 universal cylindrical grinding machines, 2 universal milling machines, 2 horizontal milling machines, 2 vertical milling machines, surface grinding machine, radial drilling machine, slotting machine, planning machine, tool and cutter, band saw.

•  General Engineering Workshop - Carpentry, Fitting, Plumbing, Sheet Metal, Foundry, Welding, Smithy.

Department has well qualified and dedicated teaching faculty with M Tech and Ph D degree from premier institutions. The faculty has been motivated to attend various National and International workshops, seminars and training programs so as to keep pace with the new teaching methodologies and latest technological developments. The department has a very effective student advisory system with cordial teacher-student relationship. Industrial visits are conducted regularly to familiarize the students with the industrial environment. The Mechanical department association "REOMZ" (Raising Engines of Mechanical Zonary) is the platform for organizing the departmental activities. The association was inaugurated by Dr V Ajith Prabhu, Joint Director, Kerala State council for science Technology and Environment on 11th January 2011. As part of the association activities lecturers by industrial experts and student's paper presentations are organized regularly. Blood donation camps are organized in association with the NSS unit of the college.

Electrical and Electronics Engineering is characterized by a diversity of fields encompassing areas of research, design, development and operation of electrical systems. Technical areas within the EEE discipline include, Electromagnetics, Electronics, Power Systems, Control Systems, Instrumentation Systems, Digital Systems, Power Electronics, Signal Processing and Communications. Involvement of Electrical Engineers stretch from designing, Implementing, maintaining and improving motors power systems and drives.

The EEE department has always been an active participant in fostering the various needs of various industries, research and development laboratories. The department is dedicated to delivering competent electrical engineers to the arena of the real world. They are outfitted with core technical knowledge as well as professional skills necessary to face the challenges of the future. The committed faculty and staff are fully geared up towards this end. The department tries to maintain high quality of teaching standard through continuous improvement in teaching. The faculty members recognize the changing needs of the society through research projects and industry institute interaction.

Excellent laboratories have been laid out for the practical instruction of students. These add value to the theoretical instruction gleaned in the lecture halls. The Electrical machine Lab, Measurement & Instrumentation Lab, Electronic Circuits lab, Systems & Control Lab, Power Electronics lab, Digital Electronics Lab, Power System Stimulation Lab, Micro processor & Software Lab and Electrical Workshop come under this stream.

The foremost objective of the Computer Science and Engineering programme is to hone technical skills demanded by today´s engineering professionals by providing a sound technical platform and the required knowledge base. It prepares them to meet the challenges faced by today´s IT professionals by exposing them to a wide array of cutting- edge technologies.

The four year B.Tech Degree course in Computer Science and Engineering is aimed at providing theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of Computer Science & Engineering. The subjects include Computer Architecture and Organization, Automata Languages and Computation, Data Structures and Algorithms, Database Management Systems, Language Processor, Computer Networks, Advanced Architecture and Parallel Processing , Software Engineering, Analysis and Design of Algorithms etc. The Department provides extensive computing resources for learning and research. It has well equipped laboratories and computing facilities. This includes more than 150 high performance computers and peripherals. Broadband Internet connectivity is provided throughout the campus. Well qualified faculty and skilled supporting staff are the strengths of the department. Students are motivated to carryout projects for deeper understanding.

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering in HCET was started in the year 2011 with an impressive infrastructure backed by the most contemporary lab equipped with highly sophisticated instruments. Currently it offers core courses whose successful completion leads to a B.Tech Degree in Electronics & Communication Engineering from the University of Kerala. The program is aimed at providing premier professional training with emphasis on the modern developments in Electronics & Communication Engineering. The department is ISO 9001-2008 certified since April 2012.

The subjects include Communication Engineering, Microwave Communication, Instrumentation, Control Systems, Industrial and Power Electronics, Digital System design, Microprocessors, Electronic Product Design, VLSI Design, Industrial Engineering and Management etc. With the aim of bridging the gap between text-book knowledge and its practical application, the students are required to take laboratory classes on all core subjects in addition to seminars and projects.
