Hooghly River Bridge Commissioners (HRBC), a statutory organization now under the Transport Department, Govt. Of West Bengal, was established in 1969 for construction of Vidyasagar Setu. This engineering marvel over the river Hooghly which was inaugurated in 1992 is the longest cable-stayed bridge in the country.
