The Super-specialty Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery has been recently added to the list of different departments functioning in IMS and SUM Hospital. The department is being headed by Dr. Jitendra Nath Patnaik, a proud stalwart of a premier institute like PGIMER, Chandigarh, who had his superspeciality training there. He had the privilege of being included in the teams of eminent surgeons of the country like Dr. Ramakant Panda, Mumbai, and Dr Srirup Chatterjee, Kolkata. He had his initial training by Dr. Shyam KST, HOD, CTVS, PGIMER, Chandigarh who has done cardiac transplantation recently. He has an able and efficient cardiac team. The different team members have come from different renowned hospitals like Fortis, Narayana Hrudalaya and Mission Hospital, Durgapur. The department is equipped with well advanced state of art modular OT and exclusive 6 bedded well equipped Intensive Care Unit staffed by well trained nursing staff. The department has started performing open heart surgeries successfully. By this IMs & SUM HOSPITAL has added itself to the list of hospitals doing open heart surgery in the State Capital of ODISHA.

The rates of these are very competitive, considering the under privileged patients. All Pathological, Radiological and Endoscopic diagnostic facilities are available. Noteworthy of these are Tumour Markers and Immunohistochemistry (done in-house 1st time in Eastern India) for exact diagnosis of the nature of cancer.

The Department of Hematology and Stem cell Transplantation has been a unique department at Institute of Medical Sciences and Sum Hospital. Multidisciplinary team consisting of doctors, nurses, dieticians, social workers and psychologists work together to provide compassionate, comprehensive, evidence-based care to hematology patients at reasonable cost. The department has a clinical section to provide treatment of all hematological disorders and a laboratory section which provides diagnostic facilities with almost all hematological disorders .It is ably supported by a modern blood bank irradiator and component facilities.
The clinical section sections of hematology department are as follows:Outpatient section-Open on all working days from 9AM-5PMDay Care Facilities-7 bedded unit open on all working days from 9AM to 5 PM essentially to provide blood products particularly patients with thalassemia,sickle cell anemia,chemotherapy for blood cancer patients and procedures like bone marrow, lumbar puncture etc.Inpatient Section-3 sections1. General ward-29 bedded unit with central oxygen and suction facilities, 2.Special hematology ward-17 beds with central oxygen, suction facilities and inbuilt monitor with each patient. 3. Hematology Intensive Care Unit -4 bedded located inside the special hematology ward so as to provide easy and early transport of patient. The Intensive Care Unit is led by a consultant who has just returned from CMC Vellore. This unit has been provided with HEPA Filter system with central air conditioning which prevents particulate air entry, filters the air and create a positive pressure in the unit so that outside air cannot enter the unit. The water is being supplied through aero plant. 4. Single room cabins-9 beds with central oxygen and suction facilities and provision to provide high dependency care like non-invasive ventilation. 5. Stem Cell Transplantation Unit-6 beds This is the state of the art unit first of its kind in the in the state with HEPA FILTER, Laminar Flow system .It does have all necessary facilities of intensive care unit (ICU) in each room with provision to provide dialysis .This is done with the objective of preventing transport to another ICU.The unit has been provided with a procedure room for collection of peripheral blood stem cells, a pharmacy with laminar air hood so that the drugs can be prepared in sterile cabinet, a  separate kitchen to prepare pressure cooked food. The water is supplied through auroplant and there are terminal water filters available at each room, to provide sterile water.

INTRODUCTION
The Department of Skin & VD was established since the inception of the Medical College in the year 2005 based on the guidelines laid by the Medical Council of India. The department has since grown exponentially in strength and reputation and caters to almost 15-17% of the daily patient load.The goal of the department is to impart quality undergraduate and postgraduate training and provide world class health care to the patients with the available expertise and technology.The main focus of the department is to impart quality education and training to the young doctors as well as to continue research activities.
ACTIVITIES
OPD: The dept runs outpatient activities on all days with various specialized clinics like psoriasis clinic,STDclinic,leprosy clinic ,pigmentary clinic and eczema clinic on specific days of the week.Clinical side lab and minor OT function in the OPD premises and help in early diagnosis and quick disposal of patients.Clinical classes for undergraduates are routinely taken in the demo room of the OPD.
IPD:  Sick patients get admitted for proper care.The IPD is manned by trained medical and paramedical staff as well as a side lab.
Instruments: Thedept has Ultrapulse CO2 laser,Ellmann RF device , Cryounit , Whole body  NB-UVB unit ,  Iontophoresisequipment , wood’s  lamp etc
Academics:Seminars,Journal clubs run regularly.Grand rounds take place once a week where difficult to treat cases are discussed in detail.The seminar room is well equipped with audio visual aids.Thedept also has a microscope with projection mode that helps todiscuss various histopathology slides
INFRASTRUCTURE
The department of community medicine is situated in the basement of the hospital building with the facilities of demonstration room, library cum seminar room, laboratory cum research room, store, office and faculty rooms. The demonstration room is fitted with LCD projector along with the green board. Department is equipped with desk top computer, printer and internet connection along with all relevant accessories.Department library has more than 100 books, which include text books of different medical subjects as well as reference books. Adequate numbers of journals are available in department as well as the in the central library for faculty reference.
