Today in the competitive world, getting proper breakthrough in the desired domain has really become a difficult task. It rather becomes more challenging for the freshers as the large number of technical and management graduates/ post graduates are passing out from different institutions of the country every year. According to the statistics publicized in 2013 by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the intake in engineering and management streams, have been increased significantly as shown by the graphs (Trend 1 and Trend 2)
According to an estimate an average of 75% students are passing out every year in either domain. The statistics of Department of Energy Science and Engineering (IIT Bombay) says that the placement record of almost all Tier 1 Engineering Colleges (IITs) are 100%, Tier 2 Engineering Colleges (NITs and Government owned/ aided) are approximately 75% and Tier 3 (top 50 private engineering colleges) are also approximately 75%.   It is quite an enthusiastic picture but the placement scenario of other private engineering and management institutions is really pathetic. It is significant to mention that most of the companies visited the campus for hiring are from software/ IT sector. Approximately 75% of the placements (for all branches) are matured by these companies while rest of the share goes into the credit of core branches (viz. Mechanical, Electrical, Civil and Electronics Engineering etc.). Although these branches contribute more than 75% of the total output still poor placement statistics indicates towards the less kinship of core companies towards these institutions due to:

Statistical Process Control (SPC)
Process Engineers are meant for process analysis and controlling in the industry. Statistical Process Control is one of the basic tools used in almost all the process industry for signaling the process performance. It becomes more vital in the industry of mass/ batch production to anticipate the process performance on the basis of certain statistical techniques. Hence, an engineer equipped with these techniques is in good demand by the process industry.

Measurement System Analysis (MSA)
Measurement is the integral part of any manufacturing system. Discrepancy in measurement leads to severe production problems. It not only affects the quality of a product but also the goodwill of an enterprise in the market. Following are some of the essential elements of measurement system:

Accuracy
Precision
Repeatability
Reproducibility

This study rather, becomes more important for fresh graduate engineers who may hold the responsibility of process analysis and controlling. After the completion of course one would be able to resolve certain measurement related issues satisfactorily.

Quality Systems (QS)
Business success may simply be the extent to which an organization can produce a higher-quality product or service than their competitors are able to do at a competitive price. When quality is the key to a company’s success, quality management systems allow

Organizations to keep up with and meet current quality levels
Meet the consumer’s requirement for quality
Retain employees through competitive compensation programs
Keep up with the latest technology

Calibration and Controlling of Measuring Instruments (CCMI)
It is not possible for any enterprise to maintain controlled conditions at the shop floor. These uncontrolled factors may be abrupt temperature variations, dust, dirt and fumes etc. This situation not only leads to the deterioration in the performance of measuring instruments and gauges but also some time create severe conditions for an enterprise. Hence a time bound prognosis becomes inevitable for these types of instruments. It is called calibration, i.e to check the caliber of an instrument at regular interval.

Energy Auditing (EA)
An energy audit is a preliminary activity towards instituting energy efficiency programs in an establishment. It consists of activities that seek to identify conservation opportunities preliminary to the development of an energy savings program.
