PTFE tape is suitable for application under ambient conditions with all common fluids and gases up to 80 bar* gauge for pipes. This tape is suitable for applications in the range-20°C to 200°C for pipe sizes up to 50mm.
Manufacture: The tape shall be manufactured from a suitable grade of virgin PTFE material. The tape shall not contain fillers or additives other than residual lubricant. The lubricant used in the manufacture of the tape shall be such that any residue let in the tape shall be entirely removed under the conditions of test for the determination of residual lubricant content.
Appearance and finish: the unsintered PTFE tape, when viewed by reflected light, shall appear white. It shall be free from any inclusion visible to the naked eye and shall be free from any surface or edge defects which may affect it’s suitability for use.
Thread Wrapping Properties: Any sample of the tape shall conform to and hold the thread form, shall not break and the finishing end of the tape shall remain in position with no tendency to unwind when tested as described in Annex C. (Specification) Sealing: Any sample of the tape shall from a leak free seal when tested by the method described in Annex D. (Specification)

Although many wire-ended capacitor and resistors are used on tag boards without sleeving , this is not so when point to point wiring is necessary, as in, for example, a miniature I. F. strip.
In this, and like instances, the use of sleeting on bare wire is generally a quick and effective wiring method. It should be borne in mind that there will be a space between the sleeving and conductor which is not present with covered wire.
Moisture may enter into this space and become trapped, causing subsequent corrosion of the conductor and a lowering of insulation resistance when the sleeved wires touch. In a similar manner large diameter sleeving, when used to hold together a number of covered wires, may from a dangerous moisture trap.
In all classes sleeving should be chosen to be as tight fit as possible on the conductor and, to facilitate insertion, the use of a suitable lubricant may be advantageous.
