A grain based distillery and ENA plant is a facility that produces ethanol, rectified spirit (RS), and extra neutral alcohol (ENA) from grains like maize, broken rice, sorghum, bajra, and jowar. 

How it works

·         Starch liquefaction

The first step in the fermentation process is to break down starch into shorter glucose chains called dextrins. This is done by heating the starch to 150°C, a process called gelatinization. 

·         Yeast propagation

Active dry yeast is inoculated into sterilized mash in water cooled vessels to prepare yeast seed material. 

·         Fermentation

The yeast seed material is transferred to pre-fermentors, then to main fermenters.

Process Breakdown

1.    Biogas Collection:

An LNG production plant, or liquefaction facility, converts natural gas into its liquid state, which reduces its volume by 600 times for easier storage and transport at roughly -162°C. The process involves three main stages: pretreatment, where impurities like water, dust, and acid gases are removed; cooling, where the gas is cooled through refrigeration cycles to a liquid state; and liquefied gas storage, where it's transferred to specialized tanks for shipping. 

The LNG Production Process

1.      Natural Gas Extraction and Initial Processing: Natural gas is first extracted from underground formations. 

2.    Pretreatment: The gas then enters the plant's liquefaction process, often called a "train," where it undergoes several critical pretreatment steps. 

o    Dust and Slugs Removal: Any dust, water, or condensate is removed. 

o    Acid Gas Removal: Carbon dioxide is absorbed and removed using an amine absorber. 

o    Dehydration: Water is removed using an adsorbent to prevent ice formation during the subsequent low-temperature process. 

3.    Cooling: The pretreated, dehydrated gas is then cooled using refrigeration cycles until it reaches its liquefaction temperature of -162°C. 

o    Cascade Processes: Use pure refrigerants like propane or nitrogen to cool the gas. 

o    Mixed Refrigerant (MR) Processes: Use a mixture of refrigerants to provide continuous cooling. 

o    Gas Expansion Processes: Cool the gas through expansion, often used for small-scale or floating LNG (FLNG) operations. 

4.    Storage: Once liquefied, the LNG is stored in super-cooled, insulated tanks.
