About The Company

  • 1922
In 1922, uusi pesula oy, with chief engineer johan roiha as principal shareholder, acquired the share capital of ab w.E. Lindström. The company was one of the largest in its field in the nordic countries. In the 1930s, the company specialised in dyeing and industrial laundry services. As industrial laundry services declined during the post-war years and especially the 1950s, uusi pesula began to concentrate on laundry services for domestic customers. The company aimed to provide affordable specialised services for households. Laundry services for domestic households took a downturn in the early 1970s, as automatic washing machines became increasingly widespread.
  • 1970
In the mid-1970s, lindström expanded into the cleaning sector. In 1975, lindström acquired laitos-siivous and became known for its all-inclusive services. Adding cleaning services to the portfolio of lindström's companies strengthened the business concept of the group as a whole. The 1990s was a period of consolidation. The company decided to concentrate on textile rental instead of cleaning, waste management and laundries. The company also expanded strongly into international markets. In the early 2000s, suomen hotellipalvelu was incorporated into comforta oy. Sales products were included alongside rental textiles, and the e-service was launched. In autumn 2002, lindström patented its modular laundry, a unique innovation on an international scale. The modular laundry facilitates a gradual, cost-efficient expansion of international operations, ensuring coherent quality throughout europe.
  • 2005
In 2005, lindström acquired vision design oy, which specialises in corporate textiles and pr products, and included protective equipment in its workwear range. In 2006, lindström established two new subsidiaries in china and ukraine. In 2007, lindström expanded its asian operations in india and established a subsidiary in turkey. In 2008, lindström celebrated its 160th anniversary. The company increased operations in europe and asia, and established a subsidiary in bulgaria. Lindström merged with its subsidiary vision design. In 2009, lindström continued its international expansion by establishing service centres in mumbai and new delhi, india, as well as peking, china, offering corporate workwear services. In finland, lindström strengthened its position on the personal protective equipment market by acquiring the ppe operations of virtacio oy, including staff, facilities and brands.

Are you a recent graduate or nearing the end of your studies:

Lindstrom regularly arranges a trainee programme for recent graduates and those nearing the end of their studies, designed to prepare the next generation of internationally and future-oriented key players. The most recent trainee programme was launched at the beginning of 2012 in finland. At present, trainee programmes are offered in finland, russia, india and china.

During the 12-month programme, trainees become familiar with lindstrom's operations by participating in diverse roles and units ranging from textile care to customer service, in different countries. The development of trainees is monitored regularly. Trainees have their own mentors to provide assistance in challenging situations.

Minimising environmental impacts and promoting social welfare are important goals in all of our countries of operation. Responsibility and ethics are integral to lindstrom value system. Lindstrom aims to operate by securing the needs of the company and the environment without a negative impact on future generations. Minimising environmental impacts and promoting social welfare are important goals in all of our countries of operation.

Lindstrom is an important employer, taxpayer and social actor in a number of locations. The company has a particularly vital role in smaller towns, ensuring regional development and livelihoods. As lindstrom is a key client for many entrepreneurs, it also influences the wellbeing of people employed by subcontractors. Lindström is often established in countries where textile services have not been previously available, thus contributing to the corporate structure and demand in the region. At the same time, lindström is able to spread environmental awareness to new areas.

Water and energy consumption at laundries and generated waste constitute the main environmental impacts of operations. The debate on climate change and legislation set restrictions also for textile rental. On the other hand, climate change has a positive effect on the development of turnover, as the debate on climate change and its effects on our living environments raise awareness towards environmental risks and interest towards environmentally friendly products and services. Ecological solutions with longer lifecycles are chosen in favour of disposable products that put a strain on the environment.

Lindstrom aims to develop activities maintaining cost-efficient services despite increasing energy and raw material costs. In future, climate change is likely to result in regulated energy and water markets, increasing the price of the commodities for companies and altering the cost structure of product maintenance. Service centres located close to customers, light, modular laundry solutions and continuous optimisation of delivery routes and textile purchasing influence service costs and environmental impact. Lindström pays particular attention to the availability of energy, service logistics and environmental values in constructing new service centres.+ Read More
