Critical Care is a speciality that involves the management of patients with life threatening, frequently complex medical and surgical illness. The critical care physician, is also called an Intensivist in some parts of the world, has expertise in the evaluation and management of these critically ill patients. A modern ICU represents the pinnacle of any hospital’s approach to highly technological & sophisticated in-patient care. Our Critical Care units bear a very pleasant and aesthetic look.

The design has been created keeping in mind the space utilization, patient comfort, infection control and ease of providing critical care, nursing care and the functional requirements of the unit. All patient beds are equipped with Philips Multichannel physiological monitoring systems, which allow close monitoring of patients both from the bedside and the central nursing station and use of a variety of invasive and non-invasive modalities. All that modern medicine has to offer can be seen in this department and it is rightly called the heart of the hospital. The ICU is staffed in a nurse to patient ratio of 1:1 for all ventilated patients and 1:2 for non ventilated patients. All these ICU nurses are given introductory training in critical care nursing and undergo regular teaching programs conducted or arranged by the Critical Care Department to promote their critical care skills and knowledge throughout their stay in the ICU.

The Critical Care units are equipped with latest and state-of-the-art machines and equipment to give complete tertiary care support to all patients. The list of equipments includes

The department is equipped with Advanced Neuroelectrophysiology lab providing facilities for stroke, epilepsy, demyelinating disorders, neuromuscular disorders, neuropathies and dementia.

The department also has a well-equipped neurophysiology laboratory that performs important diagnostic procedures required for diagnosis and management of neurological disorders.

Round the clock facilities for Thrombolysis in acute stroke providing comprehensive stroke care.

We have 07 bedded Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), well equipped with state-of-the-art Ventilator, Multi-monitors, Pulse Oximeter Monitor, Defibrillator, centralized oxygen, Suction & Pressure Air. We are capable of handling seriously ill patients.

We have highly experienced senior consultants, who are available round the clock. We are supported by dedicated resident staffs and other supportive staff. We are providing territory care level of nursing care to our patients

Department of Medicine at Maharaja Agrasen Hospital is the largest department of the hospital consisting of 6 Medicine Units. Each one of the unit being headed by a Sr. Consultant of repute with vast in the field of medicine and have publications in several national and international journals & are faculty members in various conferences and seminars.

Associate Consultants in each unit form the backbone of the department and are highly experienced in managing all emergency & critical life threatening situations. Their round the clock availability in the hospital premises gives timely help in saving lives.

The department is recognised for Post Graduate DNB programme. The department has 4 seats for Family Medicine & 4 seats for DNB Medicine each year. These students are being trained through teaching modules in the class room & at the bed side.

Most number of beds in the hospital are occupied by medical patients and maximum numbers of patients in General OPD are seen by Physicians. We get referred patients from hospitals and Nursing Home from Delhi and adjoining states. Ours in a tertiary care centre for Critical ill patients like Septic Shock, MODS, Poisoning, Respiratory failure, Strokes, etc.

The department is backed by 40 bedded medical ICU which has round the clock intensivists and critical care specialist to look after these patients. With epidemic of dengue fever each year, our department gets huge number of these patients, many of whom are critically ill, from various centers of Delhi. With good blood bank facilities for component therapy and lab support, majority of these patients have favourable outcome. Out department has grown vastly in last 20 years and we look forward to further expansion and growth.

The department has facility to perform microsurgery, treat burns, treat facial injuries, treat birth defects & perform cosmetic surgery.

The hospital has facility for treatment for cleft lip in association with the Smile Train of USA.

No child need to suffer with a Cleft, The Smile Train provides Free Cleft Surgery for the poor. A cleft surgery for the poor, a Cleft Lip or Palate is not a curse or omen. Every child with a cleft can be helped. Bring your child to our hospital to be examined. If you are too poor to afford surgery, bring your child for free cleft surgery.

Equipped with advanced technology with facilities to do spirometry, lung volumes diffusion and advanced Cardio pulmonary exercise Systems the lab is one of the busiest in Delhi. Comprehensive lung function testing for patients of Asthma, COPD, Occupational Lung Diseases and ILD is done. Smokers are motivated to get their lung function as a part of Smoking Cessation Clinic run by the department.
