MCE can also provide consultants to advise on all aspects of ocean tows and Project cargo transportation, including the feasibility and option of contracting a heavy lift vessel, and, to accordingly investigate loading and unloading locations anywhere in the world. Should a wet tow be selected for movement of Project Cargo, then MCE can manage all aspects of the operation on behalf of their clients. The tasks required are to ensure the suitability and the integrity of the unit, and its ability in terms of the towing connections and the bridle to withstand the towing forces during all weather conditions. In addition the towing vessel needs to be assessed for suitability and their ability to provide the service for the duration of the operation. There are other aspects of long distance tows of Project Cargo, such as crew changes and re-fuelling opportunities which have to be considered, and, unless properly managed all can involve risks for the tow.

Marine Warranty Services

The role of MCE as a Marine Warranty Surveyor is to reduce the probability of losses to an acceptably low level, by the application of appropriate standards, by checking designs and procedures to ensure that they comply with the standards, and by inspecting the readiness of equipment for an operation to begin, and monitoring the suitability of actual and forecast weather conditions.
In addition to offshore construction projects, the Marine Warranty Surveyor will also be involved in the towage, either by tug or on a heavy lift vessel of Mobile Offshore Drilling Units (MODU's) that are being transported from one location to another. The approval of the drilling site for both jack-up units and semi-submersible drilling units are normally subject to an investigation by the Marine Warranty Surveyor.
In the last few years a Marine Warranty Surveyor has also been requested to take a more active role in the approval of pipelines and the installation of sub-sea architecture.
