Aeronautical Engineering Department was started in 1998 in this institution and was the first of its kind among the self- financing Engineering Colleges in Tamil Nadu. The department was started with a strong mission to promote Aeronautical and Aero space related activities especially in the field of Aircraft design, Production and Maintenance Engineering. The department is at present encompassing Aerodynamics Lab, Aircraft structures Lab, Aircraft Structural Repair practices Lab, Propulsion Lab, Aero Engine Maintenance and Repair Lab, Design and Drafting Lab, Aircraft Design Project Lab, Aircraft systems Lab, Avionics Lab and CAD / CAM Lab etc., In addition to the related books available in the college main library, the department library also has adequate number of books on Aeronautical Engineering for reference to enlighten the staff and studying.

The department is also supported by other department laboratories such as Fluid Mechanics Production Process, Strength of Material and Thermodynamic Lab, Electrical Sciences and Computers etc., Real Aircraft systems, Electrical Systems, Landing gear and A/C Instrumentation Systems etc., are also available to provide hands on training to the students. The students learning process is augmented by arranged lectures by experts in the field of Aeronautical Engineering through the ‘students forum’ in the Department known as “Airfare Association”. Students are also encouraged to build aircraft models through “Aeromodelling Club” in the Department. Memorandum of Understanding is signed with software companies to train the students on software packages such as Ansys, Pro-E and CATIA.

The Civil Engineering Department was started in the year 1984. The department has well qualified and experienced faculty with specializations in various branches of Civil Engineering , such as Structural Engineering, Soil Mechanics, Hydraulics, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources and GIS etc., Among the faculty, two are possessing Ph.D degree and the remaining faculty are pursuing with their Ph.D programmes in different specializations of Civil Engineering. The Department produces academic rank holders every year with Anna University, Chennai. The Department is maintaining its superior position with respect to the pass percentage of Anna University, Chennai in Madurai zone. The Department has several laboratories as per the requirements of Anna University. The labs are fully equipped with latest equipment. The labs are : Soil Mechanics Lab, Hydraulics Engineering Lab, Survey Lab, Concrete and Highway Engineering Lab, Strength of materials Lab, Environmental Engineering Lab, Computer Aided Design & Drafting Lab (CADD) etc.

At the end of the 4 year programme, the students acquire hands on experience in design and preparation of structural drawings for concrete / steel structures, Hydraulic and environmental problems, normally encountered in Civil Engineering practice. Hence, the students undergo training and taking practice in the Computer Aided Design and Drafting lab which includes several models of structures and other related topics of civil engineering. The Department of Civil Engineering organizes National level / State level conferences / Seminar / Workshop on latest topics of Civil Engineering. The faculty members are sponsored to attend FDPs to enhance their knowledge. The department has been producing Civil Engineers from 1988 onwards and so the Alumni are well placed across the nation / world and hence outgoing students are very much benefitted in all aspects for guidance and placement. This department is a twin department offering B.E Civil Engineering and M.E. Structural Engineering.

The Department of Computer Science is offering BE computer Science and Engineering at UG level and ME Computer Science and Engineering at PG level. The Department was started in 1993. It is a well organized department and the UG / PG students are well motivated towards excellence. The department has well established laboratories for UG and PG students. The Software labs are well maintained and conditioned powered by DELL and Pentium systems of latest configuration and 24 hours Internet facility. The Internet (50 Mbps) and laboratory facilities are available for staff and students round – the clock. All the labs are well equipped with many modern facilities / utilities. The department has its own Local Area Network. More than 250 latest computers are installed in the computer labs with the help of structured cabling technique. There are two servers and 5 line UPS of 10KVA each in order to utilize the computing effectively. Special PC Server is also serving in the department. Few of the laboratories are: Network Lab, Data Structure Lab, Communication Lab, PG Research Lab, CISCO Lab etc.

PG Research and Development Lab has more than 30 systems with core i5 processor, 6.4G Hz processor speed, 8GB RAM, 500 GB Hard disc, Dell mother Board. The system software lab, Linux / Unix lab, DBMS lab, case tools lab are provided with Dual core processors, with 3GB Processor speed, 160GB hard disc and Visual Studio 6.0, Window 7 / Linux, Rational Rose, JAVA jdu1.7, SQL server, ORACLE etc,. The students who have passed out from the department are well placed in National / International companies such as the ME students of this department are placed in various Engineering colleges as Assistant Professor / Associate Professor / Professors in the states TamilNadu & Kerala. Every year, considerable number of outgoing students of CSE department secure academic ranks of Anna University, Chennai at UG & PG levels.

Recently the ME (CSE) students of our college obtain 10 State Level Ranks and abtain 2nd Position in the State. The department is a Recognized Center for Cloud Computing & Nodal Center for CISCO Network Training. The department often organizes National level Conferences / Seminars / Video Conferencing by Alumni on advanced / latest topics and the faculty are publishing research – oriented papers at the International / National Journal / Conferences. The department has well qualified faculty specialized in various field of CSE. Three of the faculty had been trained by cloud EMC2 and another three by CISCO Network Academy. Indusrial Training Programmes are carried out by reputed MNC’s representatives.

This Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering was started in the year 1984 and so a large number of ECE engineers have been produced by this department who are all well employed at the National / International companies. The department is offering BE in ECE and Two ME Programmes one in Applied Electronics and the other is in Communication Engineering. All the faculty are well qualified and experienced and most of them are pursuing with Ph.D. programmes. The students are very well encouraged and guided to present their technical papers at the conferences held in other institutions and as a result they bring awards / prizes to the department / college.

The department arranges visits to Radio / TV stations for students to acquire practical knowledge with real pictures.This department often organizes special lecture programs with eminent scholars and conferences on latest topics in Optical Communication, Networking, Embedded systems etc. The department has several well equipped laboratories such as Electronics Devices Lab, µp Lab, Electronics Circuits Lab, Embedded Systems Lab, Network Lab, DSP Lab, VLSI Lab, PC Lab, Optical Fiber Lab, Communication Engineering Lab etc.

Latest instruments / equipments such as Digital Storage Oscilloscope, Spectrum Analyzer, Linear and Digital IC trainer, Microwave Benches, RF Communication Trainer, Antenna trainer, Optical Fiber Communication Trainer, 8085/86 µp, 8051, 8096 µc and their interfacing cards, ARM 7 processor, PIC Micro Controller, Simulation S/W 89 C 5I RTOS kit, ZiGBEE Controller, LAN trainer kits, D-link Router, TMS320 DSP kits, MATLAB simulation software etc are available in the laboratories of ECE department.

The Department of ECE also offers Two Post Graduate ME Programmes: ME Communication System & ME Applied Electronics

Department of Marine Engineering educates and imparts skills required to operate and manage machineries in modern ships of merchant marine fleet. A career in the Merchant Marine as an Engineer Officer can be a rewarding one both financially and in terms of job satisfaction. For the able young officer, the system provides a smooth and rapid path of career development. The process is likely to take less than eight years from the commencement of cadetship till qualifying with Class 2 Certificate.

Further 3 years may be required to go up in the hierarchy to reach Class I certificate(Chief Engineer). A modern day ship is equipped with propulsion plants, power generating plants, cargo gears and many other service equipments along with their associated control systems. The Engineers are responsible for safe operation of all machineries and their periodic maintenances. Most Marine Engineers do not remain at sea throughout their working life. After having gained their Class I Certificate and experience as a senior officer on board, they seek employment ashore. Shore based employers generally have high regard for the seafaring engineer and consequently the transfer from shipboard to land based employment is usually easily achieved.

The Mechanical Engineering Department was started in the year 1984. This department offers BE in Mechanical Engineering and M.E. in Thermal Engineering. The department has well qualified and experienced faculty members both from Industries and Academics. The department has been producing constantly rank holders at the University level. There is a separate Department Library with large collection of volumes of books and scientific journals. The department is maintaining more than eight laboratories such as Engineering Practices Lab (with equipment for Welding, Foundary systems, grinders etc), Manufacturing Lab includes all types of Lathes, Milling machines, drilling machines, shaping machines, planner, Grinding machines etc,. CAD - CAM Lab with drafting software, modeling software, systems S/W & CNC machines, Dynamics Lab with cam Analyzer, Gyroscopes, whirling of shaft apparatus, balancing machines, Kinematic models, Vibration testing arrangement etc.,

Thermal Engineering Lab with Diesel engines, Petrol engines, Model steam power plant with steam boiler and turbine setup etc. Heat Transfer Lab with convection cylinder apparatus, Pin-fin, Stefan – Boltzmann apparatus, heat exchanger apparatus, Reciprocating air compressor, Refrigeration/ Air-conditioning test rig etc. Metrology and measurement Lab includes Vernier gauges, floating carriage Micro meter, Mechanical / Electrical / Pneumatic comparator, Autocollimator, Temperature / Displacement / Force / Torque / Vibration / Shock Measuring set ups etc., Mechatronics Lab with Pneumatic Trainer kit with controls, PLC, Hydraulic trainer kit, µ-controller with stepper motor control unit, Flow rate, direction, speed, velocity and force setups etc.,

The Department of Chemical Engineering was established in the year 1996 in MSEC, which is the first institute among self financing colleges in Tamil Nadu which started this specialization at undergraduate level. It is one of the well established departments with strong and well knit faculties, good department library with relevant books and excellent laboratory facilities. Three faculty are possessing Ph. D degree and the remaining faculty are pursuing with their Ph.D programmes. The B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering is a focused programme designed to have the balanced version of theoretical knowledge and practical knowhow in the fields of Basic Science, Physics, material science, chemistry, chemical engineering process and control system, Industrial manufacturing etc to solve industrial related chemical problems. The faculty and students are publishing their research oriented papers in National / International journals and conferences which add additional credit to the Department.

The Department organizes through its Chemical Engineering Association & CESA several students level Conferences / Seminars on latest / practical / research oriented topics and also arranges technical lecturers by eminent personalities from Industries, NIT, IIT etc., Every year, this department produces rank holders at the Anna University level including Sliver & Bronze Medalists, and maintaining best position with respect to pass percentage in this region of Anna University, Chennai. The department has cutting edge laboratories such as Mass Transfer lab, Chemical Reaction Engineering lab, Mechanical Operation lab, Technical analysis and instrumentation lab, Process control lab etc. All the equipment / instruments are available in the labs as per syllabus which includes the following also: Steam Distillation, Bubble Cap Distillation Column, Batch Crystallizer, Isothermal Batch Reactor, RTD studies in CSTR, Ball Mill, Cyclone Separator, Digital PH meters, Calorie Meter, Two Tank interacting, Non-interacting Systems, PLC trainer, Cascade Control Trainer Flow, Temperature, Level and Pressure control trainer, Pneumatic Controllers.

The students who successfully complete B.Tech Chemical Engineering will be employed in oil and refinery, fertilizers, paints, chemical, biotech, food industries, pharmaceutical, manufacturing industries in India and outside India. The Alumni are well placed in all top level Organizations.

The Department of Information Technology was established at 1999 to meet the demand for well-qualified computer professionals. It focuses on holistic learning and empowering students to make significant contributions at all levels. The cafeteria system of electives gives a handful of choices for students to develop expertise in their area of interest. It has one of the best infrastructures including domain-specific labs. Also it has a good record of organizing seminars, workshops, symposia and conferences in emerging technological areas. Our department student intake around 60 per year and we are managed with 12 Faculty member with effective teaching methodology.

To train students with good breath of knowledge in core areas of information technology and related engineering so as to comprehend engineering trade –offs, analyze, design and synthesize data and technical concepts to create novel products and solutions for the real life problems.
