For more than 50 years, our Niax* brand has enabled the efficient and consistent production of a wide array of foam products. Niax additives for flexible polyurethane foam feature open and fine cells, highly effective fire retardancy, improved density distribution and low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions. Niax additives for rigid polyurethane foam may provide improved blowing agent compatibility, solubility and miscibility, as well as enhanced thermal conductivity, dimensional stability, flow, leveling and adhesion promotion.

Our Geolite* modifiers help flexible slabstock foam producers broaden their offering of foam grades, including softer foams. This product family typically permits more water use in processing slabstock foam, allowing producers to economically eliminate or substantially reduce the use of auxiliary blowing agents. Foam producers can also achieve softer foams when using Geolite softening and stabilizing additives with CO 2 processing equipment. 

We also offer Fomrez  organometallic tin catalysts for specialty applications. These catalysts can offer varying degrees of delayed action and hydrolytic stability to meet our customers' processing needs.

Niax Additive AP-01

By promoting polymerization of the foam surface, Niax additive AP-01 helps reduce the friability often found in high-index and/or high-water content formulations. Niax additive AP-01 also helps enable adequate foam adhesion while using lower-temperature molds or laminators or applying spray foam in a low-temperature climate. 

In PUR foams based on standard polyether polyols and formulated up to 100% water blown, Niax additive AP-01 can improve adhesion - replacing low-functionality, high-molecular-weight polyols that can cause dimensional instability in foam. 

Potential applications for Niax additive AP-01 include: 

  • Rigid polyurethane foam formulations for spray or panels applied at low temperature
  • Formulations with reduced amount of physical blowing agent and increased water level
  • PIR formulations

Niax Additive RA-1

Niax additive RA-1 helps boost certain PIR reactions, enhancing the formation of a rigid polymer network after gelation occurs. Niax additive RA-1 is typically particularly useful for improving surface cure, flatness and stiffness of PIR boards and metal faced structural insulated panels, and for generally improving the processing of PIR foams. 

Used in the manufacture of rigid PIR foams that are mainly produced by continuous lamination, Niax additive RA-1 can also be useful for other polyurethane applications. Niax additive RA-1 can be added to most existing formulations, where it can improve curing and green strength with minimum impact on reaction time, making it applicable to processes requiring a slow reaction time. It is easy to handle, is highly miscible with polyols and has low odor. 

While typically producing a better-quality product, Niax additive RA-1 can potentially improve production efficiency by boosting yield and creating less scrap. Better panel flatness, reduction of surface defects, faster cure times and increased green strength may all be achievable with Niax additive RA-1, allowing for thinner facing materials and less heated molds and conveyors.

Potential applications for Niax additive RA-1 include: 

  • Rigid panels, especially those made of polyisocyanurate foam for insulation
  • Structural insulated panels with metal sheet facings
  • Co-catalyst in rigid foam application where foam cure speed needs to be increased

A proprietary molecular design and high molecular weight make Niax catalyst EF-708 nonvolatile. This design offers a strong affinity toward the chemical structure of urethane polymer to help ensure consistently superior finished foam. 

Niax catalyst EF-708, the primary product in the Blow Series, may be an excellent candidate for use with gel catalyst Niax catalyst EF-602 to help produce open-cell quality foam.

Niax catalyst EF-708 generally is easy to process and works well with a range of raw materials and varied equipment. Being able to preserve the physical properties that meet typical automotive specifications, it is an excellent option for applications with stringent emission requirements.
