Momentive's water-repellent silicones allow textiles and leathers to feature both a soft feel and water repellency, and building materials to extend their useful lifetime in the face of weather and other detrimental water exposure.

Momentive scientists continue to build upon the already effective hydrophobic performance found in our brands that feature water-repellent grades, including Magnasoft,* Formasil* and Silquest* product lines. Our water-repellent silicone additives may help to enhance the penetration and duration of water repellency while maintaining or improving other consumer-recognized benefits in the goods they treat. For example, our Magnasoft NFR-A and B products may help textiles maintain their repellency to water, even after multiple home laundry cycles. 

Some offerings also produce superior water repellency without fluorine-based chemicals. They can replace regulated or banned water-repellent chemicals while maintaining very high standards of water repellency.

Magnasoft NFR-A and Magnasoft NFR-B water repellent finishes are specialty silicone emulsions that may be co-applied during the finishing-bath process. Specialized equipment is not generally required to dry/cure this product system. Use of these products may impart a Laundry Air Dry (LAD) effect on cotton and cotton blends, meaning that the fabric may maintain water repellency over the course of time and home laundering.

This product system is manufactured without perfluorooctane sulfonic acid, perfluorooctanoic acid or alkylphenol ethoxylate. Magnasoft NFR-A and Magnasoft NFR-B water repellent finishes have a long pot life, because the system remains fully stable for up to 48 hours at batch pH between 4 and 10.

Silane blends can be used to increase the thermal stability of a silane for use in formulating high-temperature polymers. Combining phenyl and amino functionality in the same molecule is what makes Silquest Y-9669 silane so versatile - especially in resin systems that react with a secondary amino group like isocyanates, acrylates, epoxies, phenolics and RTV silicones. Silquest Y-9669 silane is at its best when used to create a material that can withstand high temperatures, such as in phenolic resin/fiberglass composites.

The outstanding high-temperature performance of Silquest Y-9669 silane was demonstrated by the improvement in durability of a glass-fiber-reinforced phenolic resin laminate. In testing, composites prepared with Silquest Y-9669 silane maintained superior flexural strength even after prolonged exposure at 500° F compared to composites prepared with another silane.

Users can experience the benefits of SM2059 reactive silicone emulsion in polishes and household cleaners, cured coatings on glass containers, fiber and thread lubricants, nonwoven textile treatments, softeners and modifiers, water-repellant finishes, and particle treatment in water repellants.

This product has been developed to show resilience against freezing temperatures with minimal chance of destabilization if properly thawed to its liquid state and mixed. SM2059 reactive silicone emulsion may be diluted in water with less than 200 ppm hardness and is typically used in concentrations ranging from 0.2% to 2.5% silicone.
