Maternal diet during pregnancy is one of the most important factors associated with infants’ birth weight and thus birth weight has often been used as an indicator of woman's nutrition during pregnancy. Better health outcomes for both infants and their mothers are seen when infants are born at term (between 37 and 42 weeks of gestation) and weighing between 2,500 and 4,000 g.
