Established in 1968, Master Tara Singh Memorial College For Women, Ludhiana was the first women college to commemorate the cherished memory of Master Tara Singh – an educationist and a great visionary-to serve the cause of women education with about 150 students and 7 teachers. It has taken a tremendous leap in the academic, cultural and sports field and has carved an enviable niche for itself among the women colleges of the city. From a cramped and threatening space, the shifting of building to wider, better and greener space bears a testimony to the tremendous strides it has taken since its inception. The growth of the institution is phenomenal. From a small sapling, it has paved its way to full bloom. In addition to degree courses in Humanities. Commerce, B.C.A., and also running the courses like M.A. Punjabi, English, Music (Ins.), Music Vocal, M. Com. and PGDCA in the college. Introduction of MBACIT is a big step towards Post Graduation Study. Our college is a pioneer Institute in Punjab to have MBACIT which is affiliated to Panjab University,Chandigarh. Our college units of N.C.C., N.S.S. and Youth Club undertake constructive programmes from time to time for the benefit of the students and society at large. Under the able and inspiring stewardship of the management and the Principal, the college has emerged as an institution known for harmonious synthesis of tradition and modernity. While preserving the traditional values, it is also stepping forward with the changing needs of the time. Keeping in view the importance of vocational education in the modern day life, many new courses have been offered to face the challenges of tomorrow to enable the students to be in tune with the global advancement. In the year 2002, the college introduced two new vocational subjects at B.A. Part I level-Information Technology and Fashion Designing in addition to Office management and Secretarial Practice already operating in the college since 1998. In the session 2003-04 three more add on courses were introduced-Hospital Waste Disposal Management, Child Care and Dress Designing apart from introducing subjects like Indian Classical Dance, Maths and Fine Arts. Special attention is paid to the overall development of students by running short courses in Computers, Stitching, Metal Embossing, Cookery, Embroidery, Rangoli, Spoken English and Personality Development during summer vacation.
