Meniscectomy is the surgical removal of all or part of a torn meniscus. A meniscus tear is a common knee joint injury. Surgeons who perform meniscectomies (orthopedic surgeons) will make surgical decisions based on the meniscus's ability to heal as well as your age, health, and activity level.

Chondroplasty surgery is referred to surgery of articular surface or articular cartilage. It is usually undertaken during arthroscopy as a day case procedure in cases where the surface has been damaged or is worn. A simple smoothing chondroplasty is where using small arthroscopic hand instruments the loose fragments of articular cartilage are removed. The abrasion chondroplasty has largely been replaced by the micro-fracture technique. This pierces the exposed bone with a drill. This produces bleeding of the underlying bone but preserves the structure of the bone surface.

Minimally invasive approach would depend on the nature of the joint damage and other risk factors associated. Obesity, excessive joint damage/deformity and health problems are factors that go against having MIS approach to joint replacement.

A lateral release is a surgical procedure used to help realign the kneecap. In this procedure the surgeon cuts through the tight retinaculum, and allows the kneecap to sit properly within its groove. The kneecap moves up and down in a groove on the end of the thigh bone as the knee bends. In some patients, the kneecap is abnormally pulled towards the outside of its groove. When the kneecap does not slide well within the groove, cartilage irritation and pain can result. There are several causes of patellar mal-tracking (where the kneecap is pulled to the outside), and the most common is tight tissue attached to the outside of the kneecap (the lateral retinaculum)

Usually an ACL tear occurs during sporting activities. They can be a sudden pivoting or cutting motion, or planting of the foot while the rest of the body turns. Patients frequently report hearing a pop and often have large swelling and pain in the knee. The goal of reconstructing the ACL is to restore the native anatomy and function of the ACL.
