MKS Gen is a feature rich all-in-one electronics solution for Reprap and other CNC devices.

It features an onboard ATmega2560. Its five motor outputs are powered by Pololu pin compatible stepper drivers.

A4988 driver for 3D printer:

A4988 driver is a complete micro-stepping motor driver with built-in translator for easy operation. This product is available in full, half, 1/4, 1/8 and 1/16. Step modes operate bipolar stepper motors. output drive capacity of up to 35 V and +- 2 A. It includes a fixed off-time current regulator. the regulator in slow or mixed decay modes. Its converter is the key to the easy implementation.

  • As long as the step input inputting one pulse, drives the motor one micro-step.
  • There are no phase sequence tables, high frequency control lines or complex interfaces to program.
  • Interface is very suitable for complex microprocessor is unavailable or is overburdened.
  • In the micro-step operation, its chopping control inside automatically selects the current decay mode (Slow or Mixed).
  • In mixed decay mode, the device is initially set to a fixed downtime in some fast decay. then the rest of the slow decay downtime.
  • Mixed decay current control scheme results in reduced audible motor noise, increased step accuracy and reduced power consumption.
  • Internal synchronous rectification control circuitry is provided to improve the pulse-width modulation (PWM) operation power consumption.
  • Internal circuit protection includes: thermal shutdown with hysteresis, under-voltage lockout (UVLO), and crossover-current protection. Special power sequencing.
  • Its surface mount QFN package (ES), a size of 5 mm × 5 mm, nominal overall package height of 0.90 mm, with an exposed pad for enhanced thermal dissipation. This package is Pb (suffix-T), with 100% matte tin lead-frame plating.

        What is a Power Module?

        A Power Module is a type of transistor where the voltage determines the conductivity of the device. Because they can be used to amplify voltages, a lot of 3D printers use MOSFETs to supply a high voltage to their heated beds and hot ends. By adding a MOSFET that is correctly rated and has a heatsink, theres a much lower chance of anything overheating and, in the worst case scenario, catching fire.

        How do you install an external module?

        As these boards are made for 3D printers, the installation process for them is very simple. Once you have connected the control wires, you will need to connect the DC +/- terminals to your printers power supply. This is where you will want to use wires with a crimped connection as opposed to bare wires to reduce the risk of any short circuits.      Next, insert you heated bed or hot end wires into the terminals labeled HOT BED and you are all set. We would also recommend you use crimp terminals for the end of the wire that goes to the MOSFET as its screw terminals are better suited to these connectors.
