Brass is the generic term for a range of copper-zinc alloys with differing combinations of properties, including strength, machinability, ductility, wear-resistance, hardness, color, antimicrobial, electrical and thermal conductivity, and corrosion-resistance.

Brasses set the standard by which the machinability of other materials is judged and are also available in a very wide variety of product forms and sizes to allow minimum machining to finished dimensions. Brass does not become brittle at low temperatures like mild steel.

Brass also has excellent thermal conductivity making it a first choice for heat exchangers (radiators). Its electrical conductivity ranges from 23 to 44% that of pure copper.
Moreover, Admiralty brass, which constitutes of 30% zinc and 1% tin & inhibits dezincification in most environments, is extensively used material in manufacturing tubes for the transportation of liquids in the coolers and evaporators. Few of the characteristics that is required by this industry includes; high thermal conductivity, light weight, strength, corrosion-resistance tube, long lastingness & durability.

Admiralty Brass is an Copper Zinc Alloy, and contains small amount of tin and arsenic as well. These admiralty brass tubes are renowned for their characteristic of superior corrosion resistance in a moderately polluted river water and clean seawater, both stagnant or slow moving water. The most common and wrought form is tube for heat exchange equipment. These tubes are extensively used in various applications including; evaporators, condensate coolers, heaters, vent condensers, water heaters, generator, air coolers, turbine oil coolers for petrochemical, ship-building, power plants, desalinations plants etc.

Leaded Brass

Lead brasses are used for their high machinability and atmospheric corrosion resistance. The machinability of brass is increased by the addition of lead because it acts as a microscopic chip breaker and tool lubricant. The leaded brasses are used for copper base screw machine material. The alloys have excellent machinability, good strength and corrosion resistance. Lead can be added to any brass to increase machinability and provide pressure tightness by sealing the shrinkage pores. There are low, medium and high leaded brasses, with lead contents up to 3.5%.
