OTIS wins largest single contract in Indian elevator industry's history
Otis Elevator Company (India) Limited is proud to announce that it has been awarded the elevators & escalators contract for Hyderabad Metro Rail Project by L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited (LTMRHL). Otis has been contracted to supply and install a total of 670 elevators and escalators for the project. Of the total units, there will be 260 of the Gen2® Premier model of elevators and 410 units of the 520 NPE model of escalators installed in over 66 metro stations, workshops and other buildings at Depots. Otis will also maintain the units for 10 years after the two year warranty period, for which a separate maintenance contract is being entered with Otis India. Otis is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
The Letter of Award (LOA) was signed and exchanged by Mr. V B Gadgil, Chief Executive & Managing Director, LTMRHL and Mr. Sebi Joseph, Managing Director, Otis Elevator Company India Limited.
Speaking on this important occasion, Mr. V B Gadgil, stated, “I am pleased that as of now we are well within our time frame of executing the project ahead of schedule. We have successfully accomplished placing all major equipment contracts as per schedule.”
United Technologies and Otis Elevator Co. Donate $2 Million Escalator Package to Smithsonian's
WASHINGTON, D.C., June 21, 2013 – United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) and its subsidiary, Otis Elevator Co., announced they will donate eight Otis escalators, valued at $2 million, to the Smithsonian’s new National Museum of African American History and Culture, now under construction on the National Mall.
As the primary vehicle for transporting visitors, the new Otis NCE escalator units will help the museum achieve its goal of becoming the first “green” building and the first LEED-certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) museum on the National Mall. Otis NCE escalators use power monitoring sensors and other advanced technology to sharply reduce energy consumption when compared to conventional escalators.
“We are proud to support the Smithsonian in celebrating African American life, art, history and culture by contributing to a world-class visitor experience,” said United Technologies Chairman and CEO Louis Chênevert. “This contribution is an example of how United Technologies supports vibrant communities and encourages growth and vitality where our employees live, work and raise families.”
The National Museum of African American History and Culture was established by an Act of Congress in 2003, becoming the 19th museum of the Smithsonian Institution. Scheduled for completion in 2015, it is now under construction on a five-acre tract on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., adjacent to the Washington Monument. When completed, the Museum will cover approximately 380,000 square feet and is expected to welcome millions of visitors each year.
OTIS ANNOUNCES INVESTMENT IN COLOMBIA Move demonstrates commitment to second largest new equip
Bogota, Colombia (July 3, 2013) – Otis Elevator Company, a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX) company, announces today the acquisition of its independent distributors – International Elevator Inc. (IEI) and Lucky Global Elevators S.A. (Lucky), both based in Bogota.
The acquisition will allow Otis to focus on new equipment, maintenance, repair and modernization of elevators in the third most populated country in Latin America, which also has the fourth highest GDP in the region. The acquisition will also support the growth of the infrastructure and civil construction sector in Colombia, which is rapidly expanding. The acquisition price was not disclosed publicly.

IEI has operated in Colombia as an independent and exclusive Otis distributor since 1987 with headquarters in Bogota and operational branches in all the major cities – Medellin, Cali, Barranquilla and Cartagena – with presence in about a dozen other municipalities. Lucky joined the Otis network in 2000, with headquarters in Bogota and offices in Medellin, Cali, Barranquilla and Bucaramanga in addition to a number of representatives across Colombia. Lucky is a national distributor of Otis'' Sigma product line.
OTIS wins contract for tallest building in North China
(June 3, 2013) – Otis Elevator Company today announced its latest success in the China marketplace with the award of the Goldin Finance 117 contract in China’s northern metropolis of Tianjin. Goldin Finance 117 is expected to take the honor of being the tallest building in the whole North China region. Otis is a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).
Otis will altogether supply 255 units upon its completion in 2016. This new installment in the central business district of Tianjin’s High-Tech Park will reach a prominent height of about 600 meters and 117 floors.
“It is exciting for us to take on another project of such magnitude here in China and it will be the largest single contract for a commercial building for Otis,” said Tom Vining, president of Otis China Area. “Innovation is at the core of what we do and this project requires a number of advanced technologies, including our super high-rise capabilities as well as best-in-class energy saving technology. We will continue bringing superior products to the China market, to meet the needs brought along by fast economic growth.”
The four elevator unit types being used in the project include Elevonic, Skyrise and the energy-efficient GeN2®-MRL elevators and Otis LINK escalators. All elevators will feature Otis’ ReGenTM drives, a regenerative drive system that returns energy to a building’s electrical grid for reuse and if combined with GeN2, is capable of reducing energy usage by up to 75 percent when compared with conventional systems.
