Paraformaldehyde forms slowly in aqueous formaldehyde solutions as a white precipitate, especially if stored in the cold. Formalin actually contains very little monomeric formaldehyde; most of it forms short chains of polyformaldehyde. A small amount of methanol is often added as a stabilizer to limit the extent of polymerization.
Toxic (T); Corrosive (C)

Propylene glycol, also called propane-1,2-diol, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C3H8O2. It is a viscous colorless liquid which is nearly odorless but possesses a faintly sweet taste. Chemically it is classed as a diol and is miscible with a broad range of solvents, including water, acetone, and chloroform. It is produced on a large scale and is primarily used in the production of polymers but also sees use in food processing as the E-number E1520. The compound is sometimes called α-propylene glycol to distinguish it from the isomer propane-1,3-diol (β-propylene glycol). Propylene glycol contains an asymmetrical carbon atom, so it exists in two enantiomers. The commercial product is a racemic mixture. Pure optical isomers can be obtained by hydration of optically pure propylene oxide.[3] The freezing point of water is depressed when mixed with propylene glycol owing to the effects of dissolution of a solute in a solvent (freezing-point depression); in general, glycols are non-corrosive, have very low volatility and very low toxici Propylene glycol[1] Names IUPAC namePropane-1,2-diol Other names Propylene glycol; α-Propylene glycol; 1,2-Propanediol; 1,2-Dihydroxypropane; Methyl ethyl glycol (MEG); Methylethylene glycol Identifiers CAS Number 57-55-6 ChEBI CHEBI:16997 ChEMBL ChEMBL286398 ChemSpider 13835224 EC Number 200-338-0 Jmol 3D model Interactive image PubChem 1030 RTECS number TY6300000 UNII 6DC9Q167V3 InChI[show] SMILES[show] Properties Chemical formula C3H8O2 Molar mass 76.10 g·mol−1 Density 1.036 g/cm3 Melting point −59 °C (−74 °F; 214 K) Boiling point 188.2 °C (370.8 °F; 461.3 K) Solubility in water Miscible Solubility in ethanol Miscible Solubility in diethyl ether Miscible Solubility in acetone Miscible Solubility in chloroform Miscible Thermal conductivity 0.34 W/m-K (50% H2O @ 90 °C (194 °F)) Viscosity ty, however, the closely related ethylene glycol.

The triglyceride 1,2,3-triacetoxypropane is more generally known as triacetin and glycerin triacetate. It is the triester of glycerol and acetylating agents, such as acetic acid and acetic anhydride.[6] It is a colorless, viscous and odorless liquid.
UsesIt is an artificial chemical compound,[7] commonly used as a food additive, for instance as a solvent in flavourings, and for its humectant function, with E number E1518 and Australian approval code A1518. It is used as an excipient in pharmaceutical products, where it is used as a humectant, a plasticizer, and as a solvent.[8]
Triacetin can also be used as a fuel additive as an antiknock agent which can reduce engine knocking in gasoline, and to improve cold and viscosity properties of biodiesel.[9]
In a 1994 report released by five top cigarette companies, triacetin was listed as one of the 599 cigarette additives. The triacetin is applied to the filter as a plasticizer.[10]
It has been considered as a possible source of food energy in artificial food regeneration systems on long space missions. It is believed to be safe to get over half of one''s dietary energy from triacetin.[11]

Calcium chloride (chemical formula CaCl2) is the ionic compound of calcium and chlorine. It is a salt that behaves as a typical ionic halide, being solid at room temperature and highly soluble in water. Common applications include brine for refrigeration plants, ice and dust control on roads, and desiccation. Because of its hygroscopic nature, attracting and holding water, anhydrous calcium chloride must be kept in airtight containers.
