Comprehensive Eye Examination
Get Best Quote

A complete eye check-up helps determine how well a patient sees and also the presence of any eye disease. It usually includes the following:

Review of personal and family history and a history of any eye problem

Evaluation of distance and near vision with an eye chart

Determination of the eye glass power

Ocular movement to test muscle function and the presence of any significant squinting

Examination of the front of the eye to determine the presence of any eye disease such as cataract, glaucoma, iritis etc

Eye pressure test

Examination of the back of the eye to rule out diseases of the optic nerve, retina and uvea

At Poorva Eye Care we use this time to also interact with the patient and understand his complaints and requirements whilst we come to a diagnosis.

It is the opacification of the normal clear lens within the eye. The condition occurs mainly as an aging process but can rarely occur due to other conditions like trauma, diseases of the eye or body. Occasionally, it can occur in children, as a developmental defect.

what are the symptoms of cataract

the most common symptom is blurred or cloudy vision. Other complaints include rainbow halos, multiple images, glare and frequent change of glass.

 treatment

the treatment of cataract is the surgical removal of the natural cloudy lens followed by replacement with an artificial lens called iol. Spectacles can help in the early stages but for the clearest vision, surgery has to be done.

Phacoemulsification: Phacoemulsification is the technique in which the cataract is broken down or emulsified with the help of ultrasound energy and the emulsified matter is aspirated through a very small cut or incision. A foldable IOL is then inserted into the eye. As the incision is small, no stitches are required and often, no injections.

Cold Phaco: Cold Phaco cataract removal technology uses instruments which do not build up heat which allow less trauma during surgery and an earlier return of vision

 Micro Incisional Phacoemulsification (MICS): This is a type of cataract surgery in which the incision is less than 2mm. As the incision is so small there is less damage to the structures of the eye. It has the following advantages;

Rapid Healing allowing a quick return to normal activities

Lower astigmatism ( distortion)

Eye Care In Children

Get Latest Price

Paediatric Ophthalmology is an important subspecialty of ophthalmology which deals with eye diseases affecting children.

Children’s eyes need special care as their visual systems are developing. Any disruption in the proper development of the eyes will lead to a life of poor or subnormal vision.

Regular eye check-ups are very important. The first visit should be between three and five years of age. (see Comprehensive Eye Check-up for schedule of eye visits for children). However eye check-ups should be started earlier for certain at risk children and children showing symptoms of eye diseases.

We treat the following eye diseases affecting children:

  • Refractive error
  • Amblyopia or “lazy eye”
  • Squint
  • Cataract in children
  • Glaucoma in children
  • Lid abnormalities
  • Orbital tumours
  • Congenital Dacrocystitis

Glaucoma Surgery

Glaucoma is a serious eye disease often called “the silent thief of sight” as it affects unsuspecting people and robs them of their eye sight. Many people affected with the disease do not realise they have the condition. This is because the disease is slow, insidious and affects the eyes unequally. Persons affected often carry on living normal lives whilst the disease destroys the nerves of their eyes. The tragedy is that there is no treatment to recover that part of the eyesight which is lost and if there is no timely detection and intervention, it can lead to irreversible blindness. It is not an uncommon disease. Glaucoma is the third leading cause of blindness in India and 12 million people are affected accounting for 12.8% of the blindness in our country.

Retina And Uvea Service

Get Latest Price

The retina and uvea form the inner lining of the eye. The retina is sensitive to light; rays of light from the outside world fall upon it and stimulate the nerve cells contained in it. These nerve cells then send signals to the brain which interprets these signals and thus we see. The uvea nourishes the retina. The retina contains millions of nerve cells, supporting tissues and blood vessels and may be affected by many diseases.

A retina checkup (and a simultaneous uvea check-up) is essential if you have any of the following:

  1. Diabetes mellitus (for diabetic retinopathy)
  2. High blood pressure (for retinal bleeding, stroke etc.)
  3. Above 60years of age ( for age related changes affecting reading vision –ARMD)
  4. High minus power ( for retinal thinning and tears)
  5. Seeing black spots, thread like floaters or sudden flashes of light
Poorva Eye Care offers the following services
  • Peripheral retinal examination (indirect ophthalmoscopy)
  • Central retinal examination with 78D and 90D lens
  • Retinal scanning (OCT)
  • Treatment for retinal breaks, tears, thinning etc.
  • Surgery for retinal detachment
  • Pneumoretinopexy
  • Treatment for retinal bleeding, cystic fluid collection, CNVM etc with injection

Eye Test

Good eye sight is one of the determinants of the quality of our life. It is smart to protect and preserve that vision with regular eye check-ups. A practical schedule of eye examination is as follows.

 Adults:

Adults who wear glasses or contact lens should have an eye exam every year

• Adults without glasses need an eye check-up every two to three years up to 40years. After 40years a yearly eye check-up is advised to check for common eye problems such as presbyopia, cataract etc

• Adults with diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis, kidney disease or on certain medicine like HCQ for arthritis, anti TB drugs, steroids etc. may require more frequent eye check-ups

Children:

  • For a normal healthy baby the first routine eye check-up should be done between the ages of 3 and 5years to detect ‘lazy eye’, growing power, developmental diseases etc.Thereafter annual check-ups are required especially if the child is wearing glasses. Sometimes more frequent eye check-ups are required if power changes rapidly.
  • Premature babies, low birth weight babies and babies who have received oxygen immediately after birth should be checked immediately
  • Parents should contact an eye specialist immediately if they notice any of the following

  1. Squinting
  2. Eyeball is larger or smaller in size or shows constant jerky movements
  3. Constant watering/ discharge
  4. Headache
  5. Abnormal white colour of the central dark portion of the eye(pupil)
  6. Bluish coloration of eyeball

Botox Therapy

Botox or Type A is a medicine obtained from the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. It has been used by doctors for many years in a highly purified and diluted form for many cosmetic and medical procedures. Medical uses include treatment of migraine, cervical dystonia etc.

 USES OF BOTOX

Poorva Eye Care was one of the earliest eye clinics to offer Botox treatment. We use it mainly for two conditions.

 1. Use of Botox for treatment of eye diseases.

  • Blepharospasm: this is a nerve disorder causing involuntary twitching of the muscles around the eye. The cause is unknown. Sometimes the spasm may be severe enough to interfere with normal life and causes extreme debilitating stress and social isolation.
  • Hemifacial spasm: this is a rare condition in which there is involuntary irregular twitching or spasm involving one side of the face. The condition is extremely distressing and can be treated successfully with Botox injection. However the injections have to be repeated every 3 to 6 months. Permanent cure is only by a difficult type of brain surgery called Micro vascular Decompression.

2. Cosmetic Uses.

Botox is injected into the muscles of the face with very fine needles to reduce wrinkles. The chief uses are:

  • Crow’s Feet
  • Frown Lines
  • Forehead wrinkles
  • Lines around the mouth

Poorva Eye Care has been offering this discrete service to our patients for nearly ten years with very satisfactory results. Please contact Dr. Sukanya Mitra if you are interested in knowing more about this procedure.
