Pratigya is an independent youth initiative to ensure Right to Choose School with Right to Education for each and every child and mobilize youth to action.
It was started in June, 2007, by a group of committed youth who strongly believe that change is possible and it is only possible through Education. This group has been inspired by the appeal made by the former President of India Dr A P J Abdul Kalam to come forward and take the pledge to spread the light
of education to every child in country. Pratigya is the First organisation in Jharkhand working on the Life-skills, Personality Development and Financial Education of the deprived children. Along with sponsoring the underprivileged children for their education, Pratigya initiated a unique programme for the overall development of children. WHAT OUR MISSION IS Our mission is to mobilize the youth, to act towards ensuring the right to quality education for every child in India. We believe in moving beyond the traditional approaches and providing parents and children with choice. We aim at freeing children and India from the shackles of ignorance and poverty.

A good quality education always requires a good source of knowledge. Having incomplete knowledge is more or less same as having no education. And lack of good resources have been found to be the reason for this incomplete education most of the times and at most of the places. Since underprivileged areas have their limitation of resources, so Pratigya have stepped into setting up of a room that would be meant for all, where anyone can get the resource he/she is looking for. The room must not be limited for the children or the adults but it must be accessible to the whole community. Anyone can visit this very room and search out for the resources he/she needed, whether it is related to his/her education, skill, work, profession, etc. Pratigya named this project as URGE which means Unlimited Resources for Generating Excellence. Pratigya intends to set up this sort of room in every far off village of Jharkhand so as to help the underdeveloped to get connected with the developed.

Jharkhand being a backward state in terms of literacy having literacy rate of just 67.2 %, takes the state to
the rank of 25th in the list of Indian states. The very reason for this backwardness is that, since times, the
maximum parts of the state have been overlooked because of which people here got diverted towards the
wrong ways of demanding their rights like Naxalism and other criminal activities. The girls of this state
have the highest rate of getting trafficked and indulging into prostitution, the reason being the poverty as
well as lack of education among the community. Even government agencies found to be ineffective in
bringing some development in the interior villages of this state due to prevailing Naxalist activities. Due to
the presence of schools which are mostly run on an adhoc basis, the children of these areas found the illegal
ways of earning livelihood more comfortable. Moreover, parents also found themselves helpless in
preventing their children to get involved into these sorts of activities.
