About The Company

About The Company
The raisin was discovered accidentally, many years before Christ. People ate grapes but did not know that if they were to dry the grape, it would become this useful and delicious dried fruit called the raisin. Historians claim that the Phoenicians and Armenians were the first nations to produce raisins. Phoenicians established vineyards in Spain and Greece that were fitting for cultivating raisins and the Armenians established their vineyards in Iran, Turkey and Iraq. The Greeks and Romans had a high demand for raisins and then other countries started to use raisins as well.
The word raisin dates back to Middle English and is a loanword from Old French; raisin means "grape," while, in French, a dried grape is referred to as a raisin sec, or "dry grape." The Old French word in turn was developed from the Latin word racemes, "a bunch of grapes." Raisin varieties depend on the type of grape used. Seedless varieties include the Sultana (also known as "Thompson Seedless" in the USA) and Flame. Raisins are typically sun-dried, but may also be "water-dipped," or dehydrated.
What are Raisins:
Raisins are basically dry grapes and they are known as kishmish, bedana, manuka or dry fruit. During earlier days, grapes were dried on plants only which was a very crude method resulting in wastages. Processing using some chemicals was invented but there was considerable consumer resistance. Since then a new method without use of chemicals, known as Australian method has been introduced successfully.
Raisins are composed of important food elements such as sugars, fruit acids, and mineral salts. The sugars provide a good source for carbohydrates. Fruit acids such as folic acid and pantothenic acid, which have been shown to promote growth, are also significant components. Vitamin B6 is found in raisins and is an essential part of human nutrition. Important minerals in raisins include calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus. Additionally, iron, copper, zinc, and other nutrients are found in trace amounts in raisins. Considering the composition of raisins and the fact that they have no fat, it is no wonder that this fruit is considered a healthy snack.
Processed raisins are dried grapes of the Viniferous variety such as the Thompson Seedless. The processed raisins are prepared from clean, sound, dried grapes, which are properly stemmed and cap stemmed, then sorted, cleaned and washed in water to assure a wholesome product.+ Read More
