Rabeprazole 20 mg injection is used to treat conditions caused by excessive stomach acid production, particularly when a patient cannot take oral medication. It belongs to a class of drugs called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). Primary UsesRabeprazole 20 mg injection is prescribed for the following conditions:
Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): It manages symptoms such as heartburn, indigestion, and acid reflux, and promotes the healing of the esophagus lining (reflux esophagitis).
Peptic Ulcer Disease: It is used to treat both gastric (stomach) and duodenal (intestinal) ulcers by reducing acid and allowing the ulcers to heal.
Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome (ZES): This medication helps manage conditions where the stomach produces excessively high amounts of acid.
Prevention of Stress Ulcers: It is used in critically ill patients to prevent stress-induced mucosal injuries.
H. pylori Infection: When used in combination with appropriate antibiotics (such as amoxicillin and clarithromycin), it helps eradicate the Helicobacter pylori bacteria, which is a common cause of ulcers.
Pre-anesthetic medication: It may be administered before surgery to reduce the risk of acid aspiration complications, such as lung injury
