Actrapid HM 100IU/ml Penfill is a short-acting insulin used to treat type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is used together with a healthy diet and regular exercise to control blood sugar levels after meals. This helps to prevent serious complications of diabetes like kidney damage and blindnessActrapid® is used to reduce the high blood sugar level in patients with diabetes mellitus (diabetes). Diabetes is a disease where your body does not produce enough insulin to control the level of your blood sugar. Treatment with Actrapid® helps to prevent complications from your diabetes.
Actrapid is a fast-acting insulin. Onset of action is within ½ hour, reaches a maximum effect within 1.5–3.5 hours and the entire duration of action is approximately 7–8 hours. Insulin in the blood stream has a half-life of a few minutes.
Actrapid is administered subcutaneously by injection in the abdominal wall, the thigh, the gluteal region or the deltoid region. Injection sites should always be rotated within the same region in order to reduce the risk of lipodystrophy and cutaneous amyloidosis (see sections 4.4 and 4.8)
