When used collectively, as explained below, these products provide a range of functions starting from forming a protective cover for preventing metal oxidation, to reducing the gas pick up, to degassing and deoxidizing the molten copper alloy. The covering fluxes melt at lower temperatures than the metallic charge, and progressively float to the top forming a thick fluid slag that protects the molten metal.
