Blepharoplasty - Eyelid Surgery

In your first consultation Dr Sanghvi will evaluate what can be done to improve the look of your eyes. Eyelid surgery must be specifically designed depending upon the condition of the eyelids. For example, some patients only need to have correction on their lower lids, while others need both upper and lower eyelids. Patients with droopy eyelids may only need to have skin removed, while patients with baggy eyelids may need both skin and fat removed. Patients with “crows feet or fine lines and wrinkles may need a combination of blepharoplasty with a light laser resurfacing or Botox for perfect solutions.

For whom is Blepharoplasty advised?
Blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery is a popular treatment to
1 Tighten droopy eyelids
2 Reshape the lids
3 Remove unwanted fatty bags from under the eyes
4 Realign the eyelids
What does the actual procedure involve?
Lower lid blepharoplasty: If you have bags under your eyes with loose hanging skin, an incision is made along the lash line of the lower eyelid or in the smile creases below the eye. Excess fat, muscle and skin are removed. The incision is closed with fine sutures. These sutures are removed in 5 days after the procedure.
If you have bags of fat beneath your lower eyelids, but do not need to have any loose skin removed, Dr Sanghvi may recommend a transconjunctival blepharoplasty. In this procedure a slight incision is made inside your lower eyelid, leaving no visible scar. Transconjunctival blepharoplasty does not tighten the skin but reduces the puffiness in the lower eyelid region.
Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty: Now in case of fat on the upper eyelid, an incision is made in the fold just below the eyebrow bone and extends into the outer creases of your eye. Excess skin and tissue is removed and the incision is stitched. Normally since the incision is in the fold, it is hardly visible.
How long does the entire procedure take?
The blepharoplasty procedure normally takes anywhere between one to three hours, depending on the technique used and the extent of the repair.
What can I expect after a Blepharoplasty procedure?
Initially, the incisions will look red and somewhat bumpy but eventually the scars would fade away. You will need to avoid straining, bending and lifting during the early post-operative period. Thin scars may remain slightly pink for six months or so, but can easily be concealed with makeup which you can apply within the first week.
Blepharoplasty can make a significant difference in the appearance of the face, erasing the appearance of tiredness and old age by eliminating the excess, wrinkly skin beneath the eyes. Eyes appear fresher and more youthful, and the results may last for many years.
