Blood Bank

Inaugurated on april 4th 1986, by mother teresa, the dr. Balabhai nanavati hospital hospital blood bank provides 24 hours all services required for the provision and collection of safe blood. In addition to blood collected at the centre, blood donation camps are also organised where donors can voluntarily donate blood.
Dr. Balabhai nanavati hospital trust hospital is the only hospital in mumbai taking care of such a large number of thalassemic children.

The blood bank is affiliated to the federation of blood banks, and is also a member of the state council for safe transfusion.

The blood bank ensures that all donated units are screened for serology tests like hiv, hbsag, hcv, vdrl and malaria, as per fda directives. Over the last year, all these tests have been automated - the automation of the elisa test has reduced the steps of aliquating and rebelling. Specimen adding dilution, and other steps in the process, till report generation and print out, has helped to ensure that results are standardised and controlled.
