It stops the abnormal muscle contractions called spasms by stopping the release of a chemical which acts between the nerves and muscles that causes muscle contraction. This helps to reduce the spasms and provides relief. In this way, it improves the quality of life. It is given as an injection by a doctor or nurse and should not be self-administered.
