Cardiovascular (Heart & Circulation) disease is the most common cause of death and disability in the world today. In India, it is a huge burden and has become an epidemic (Approximately 30% of all deaths). People of the Indian subcontinent contribute to the highest proportion of heart disease burden, when compared with any other region in the world. We carry increased risk even amongst migrants to other countries and have an increased mortality at a younger age compared to western population.
Preventive strategies for heart diseases have been used quite successfully in developed countries and could be potentially used in preventing or reducing the risk in our country. These include identifying and addressing the risk factors, life style modifications, and creating awareness amongst high-risk populations.
In addition to the traditional risk factors like diets rich in saturated fats, high serum cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, smoking, obesity & lack of physical exercise, there are elevated levels of Lipoprotein LP (A), which is genetically mediated and associated, with increased risk of heart attacks and strokes amongst Indians.
The “Heart Care” Team at Primecare is led by Dr Syeda Fathimunnisa, an UK trained Cardiologist (Heart Specialist), providing high quality diagnostic and treatment facilities for cardiovascular disorders, in addition to providing preventive cardiology service, such as comprehensive cardiac check up, life style modification advice, dietary advice, smoking cessation clinics etc.
