Chin Augmentation

It's also called as genioplasty or augmentation mentoplasty. Augmentation of the chin is an aesthetic surgical procedure done in order to reshape and enhance the appearance of the chin. In order to perform this surgery an implant may be inserted or bones may be moved and reshaped. Procedure
Surgery can be performed on an outpatient basis. X rays of chin and face will help the surgeon to decide the mode of operation. General anesthesia is given to the patient. Later an incision is made outside the chin area or inside the mouth cavity. Hence a pocket to hold on the implant is constructed. It's placed in the pouch thus formed. Implants may be created out of fat tissues, silicone or biological products. These implants are connected using stitches or screws to the bone. Sutures are used to close the incision made. Sometimes bones may also be moved in order to reshape the chin area. These bones are cut using a chisel or saw, later on the jaw bone is wired and screwed to maintain it in position. Bandages are used to cover up the wound. If the wound is inside the mouth then no scars would remain. Usually chin augmentations are performed along with other similar procedures such as liposuction and rhinoplasty.
