Most versatile and single largest branch in engineering, Civil Engineering has grown over the years to cater the basic needs of humans. The Civil Engineering department of HCET strives to produce quality civil engineers and there by moulding them to become the backbone in the nation's development The department has an intake of 60 students in an academic year. Well-equipped labs and availability of trained manpower caters to all needs of the students. Also the labs are well set up to take up external consultancy work in Civil Engineering. The Labs are being developed further to cater the needs of research activities of the college.The faculties of the department are professionally qualified, dedicated and well trained for the overall development of the students. There is a well-established staff advisory system which helps to maintain a healthy student teacher relationship. A staff advisor will be in charge of 20 students, so as to give individual attention to the students. The faculty members are trained each year through short term faculty development programme to update their knowledge and teaching skills. Industrial visits are instrumental in understanding the theoretical concepts and acclimatizing the students with the current industrial environment. Periodic visits are arranged to such industries to gain a hand - on - site experience and to interact with professionals. Technical talks of eminent personalities from various fields are arranged for the students to keep them updated about the recent developments in Civil Engineering. "TRIODCE, " the Civil Engineering association of HCET inaugurated by Padmasree G.Shankar on February 2012, stands as a foundation for developing the students into technically competent and socially committed citizens. The Civil Engineering Association organises technical seminars by the students as well as by eminent personalities for igniting confidence among students. Also the association intents to take up the works related to overall improvement of quality of living standards of the surrounding people by giving them the technical assistance related to construction of low cost building, economical disposal of organic waste produced in the houses, production of biogas from organic waste etc. In addition to above, the association proposes to conduct social activities such as giving education for economically and socially backward students, free medical camps etc.
