The community healthprogramme is an integralcomponent of the holisticdevelopment programme.Poor health care facilitiesbeing an importantrural problem, BAIF hasinitiated promotion of safedrinking water, sanitation,hygiene, primary medicalcare, revival of traditionalsystems of medicine,awareness, reproductiveand child health, familywelfare and combatingmalnutrition in the projectareas.
The major activitiesinclude promotion ofgood health practiceson safe drinking water,clean home and kitchenpackage, waste waterdisposal, improvednutrition through kitchenCOMMUNITY HEALTHgarden, herbal garden,cultivation and use ofmedicinal plants, hygieneand sanitation. 46 waterpurification units wereinstalled in Maharashtra,Karnataka, Gujarat andAndhra Pradesh, withthe support of PlanetWater Foundation, USA,benefitting over 28,000people.
Trained local volunteersselected from CommunitybasedOrganisations, havebeen working as healthguides and communityhealth facilitators toimplement healthactivities and creation ofawareness.
The Nature Cure Ashramat Urulikanchan impartedtraining to traditionalhealth practitionersand health workers ofMaharashtra and Gujaratto consolidate theindigenous knowledgeand best practices tosupport primary healthservices in remote areas.Over 200 Charak Centres(health centres) havebeen established bythem. The local school atBhadrapada, documentedmore than 100 medicinalplants found in Dangsforest and developed apilot herbarium.
