Destination Guide: Spread over 520 square kilometres, Corbett is characterised by dense forest interspersed with broad open grasslands (called "chaurs" ). The Ramganga river winds its sinuous way through the sanctuary- ideal country for the tiger and its natural prey. The best way to see the jungle is on elephant back- the ultimate 4-wheel drive vehicle! You can also hire a jeep and a naturalist to take you around tracking the wildlife.
Corbett National Park is famous for its wealth of flora and fauna. The park has more than 51 different kinds of shrubs, more than 30 kinds of bamboos and over 110 different species of trees. Further, there are more than 25 species of reptiles and over 50 varieties of mammal species. Not to mention 585 kinds of birds! Being at the foothills of the Himalayas, a number of migratory birds descend here from colder climes. Another major attraction here is the aquatic reptiles; different kinds of crocodiles can be spotted here.
