A Multi detector CT Scan (MDCT) -16 slice -SOMATOM emotion is available in the department on which entire range of diagnostic studies are performed.
In addition to whole body CT imaging dual phase CT Scan of the liver, pancreas and vascular studies like spiral CT angiography of cerebral, carotid, abdominal, thoracic, and peripheral, vessels are performed with the help of pressure injector for accurate depiction of vessels without the need for any invasive procedure. Virtual colonoscopy, endoscopy and laryngoscopy are also done in our setup. High-resolution CT study for lungs and bony abnormalities like temporal bone are performed routinely. 3D reconstruction of axial images by forming MPR and SSD is done in cases wherever required.Adequate quantity of contrast agent is given and thin sections are taken wherever required, so that image quality is maintained. The non-ionic contrast media is always used to ensure that no adverse reactions occur.

Paradoxical as it may seem the genesis of this cancer institute lies in the world’s worst industrial disaster the Bhopal Gas Tragedy which left a trail of death and devastation – quite a few thousand dead and tens of thousands maimed, disabled and emaciated for life – following the leakage of huge quantities of Methylisocynite (MIC) gas from the Union Carbide’s Pesticides plant on a cold wintry morning on December 3, 1984. The cataclysmic tragedy shook the frail humanity of Madhya Pradesh capital to its marrow. Medical experts were almost unanimous in their view that the long term effects of this toxic gas would push up the graph of cancer incidence considerably. These warnings obviously added a sense of urgency to the long left need of a comprehensive cancer hospital in Bhopal, one of the fastest developing towns in India. Dedicated to the public on 11th January, 1995 by erstwhile President of India His Excellency Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, the subsequent years witnessed a speedy expansion and upgradation of facilities with the result that the level of treatment of our institute is equivalent to any top nationally known cancer institutes. This has been acknowledged by a large galaxy of top experts.
Nothing is more challenging in medical field than establishing a comprehensive cancer hospital, as it requires massive investment. Few therefore take up this extra-ordinary challenge. However, journalistic reputation howsoever humble it may be enabled me to mobilize necessary funds for establishing Jawaharlal Nehru Cancer Hospital & Research Centre, Bhopal. It was a long journey from being a “pen pusher” to the “Pain killer”. It would be relevant to mention in this context that we would be shortly launching our Pain control & Palliative Care Centre (Hospice) in Shahpura locality of Bhopal. It will be the first full-fledged Centre of its kind in Central India. The purpose of setting up of this Centre is to provide specialized services to make the life of terminally ill patients comfortable as per the guidelines of WHO. Our hospital is also vigorously involved in creating awareness vis-à-vis cancer through series of awareness meetings and free cancer detection camps. All parts of the State are being covered under this campaign.
We look forward to the State Govt., Govt. of India, various public and private undertakings, charitable organizations, NRIs, International organizations and socially conscious people to help generating sufficient funds for the unabated upgradation of the facilities as well as sharing the solemn responsibility for providing free treatment to the poor patients. We trust liberal support will be forthcoming in form of donations / financial assistant for this highly humanitarian cause.
