The founding history of Feng Shui is lost in time. The first documented reference of Feng Shui was in ancient Chinese text dating back to 200 A.D. However, artefacts and symbols of Feng Shui go further back to around 4000 B.C. "Feng" "Shui" simply means wind and water and together the words signify harmony and balance.
Historically, feng shui was widely used to orient buildings often spiritually significant structures such as tombs, but also dwellings and other structures in an auspicious manner. Depending on the particular style of feng shui being used, an auspicious site could be determined by reference to local features such as bodies of water, stars, or a compass.
In the recent times Feng Shui has gained popularity. Certainly, people are using Feng Shui to improve their home and family lives and live in harmony with the earth. The subtle changes to their homes and offices literally transform their lives and they achieve peace and contentment, which is denied to most others.
