The root cause of female infertility can be difficult to diagnose. But there are a number of diagnostic techniques available to help pinpoint the cause of infertility in a particular individual. There are some basic steps used by us to evaluate woman infertility:
- Medical history by a certified fertility specialist
- Physical Examination by a certified fertility specialist
After evaluating the basic steps of
woman infertility, we recommend one or more of the following diagnostic
tests on the basis of each woman's specific conditions.
Hormone Screening–
The woman's blood and/or urine will be tested to check the levels of
various hormones (LH, FSH, Prolactin) necessary for ovulation and
implantation.
Ovarian Reserve Testing– This testing helps determine the quality and quantity of eggs available for ovulation.
Hysterosalpingogram(HSG) – It is an x-ray procedure in order to assess the anatomy of the endometrial cavity of the uterus
Karyotyping -Genetic testing helps determine whether there's a genetic defect causing infertility and cause of recurrent miscarriages.
Laparoscopy–
Minimally invasive surgery used to identify endometriosis, scarring,
blockages or irregularities of the fallopian tubes, and problems with
the ovaries and uterus.
Ultrasonography –
It is used to evaluate uterine or ovarian abnormalities in women who
have difficulty getting pregnant or experience multiple miscarriages.
Endometrial biopsy – It is used to see if the woman has a hormonal imbalance that prevents
her from sustaining a pregnancy. It also helps rule out any chronic
infection like tuberculosis.
In most of the cases, the above basic
infertility testing will provide helpful information regarding the
possible cause of infertility and most importantly, facilitate effective
infertility treatment.
