CommonName: Lemon Grass.
Botanical Name: Cymbopogon citratus.
Climate: Tropical,warm and temperate.
Soil: Rich andwell drained.
Description: Clumpforming with robust, dense, cane like stems and arching, lemon
scented, linear leaves up to 90 cms. long.
Medicinal: Internally for digestive problems in children and minor fevers.
Externally for ring worms, lice, athletes foot,arthritis and scabies.
Culinary: Baseof leaves is used fresh in South East Asian cooking, specially
with fish, meat, sauces and curries. Leaves also infusedfor tea.
Cosmetic: Oilis used in soaps, hair oils, perfumes and cosmetics.
Others: Importantin the manufacturing of Vitamin A.
Parts used: Leavesand stem.
How to use: Stemsare cut at ground level and used fresh for oil extraction. The leaf
blades may be removed and the lower 7 to 10 cms. usedas fresh herb.
Propagation: Bydivision of roots in spring.
