India’s leading SUV manufacturer, Mahindra & Mahindra launched the facelift version of its most popular sport-utility vehicle Bolero in 2012. Receiving some vital exterior and interior updates, the new Bolero looks more rugged, masculine and outgoing. The new large headlamps, redesigned bumper with integrated fog lamps, honey-comb shaped mesh and grille with embossed Mahindra’s logo enhance its front fascia. The side body graphics remain the same. The SUV is assembled with 215/75 R15 size of tyres. The rear gets minor revision with new tail lamps and rear wiper. The new Bolero is now offered in six shades: silver, brown, black, beige, red and white.
The Mahindra Bolero facelift is richer and more comfortable from inside. The beige cabin feels bright and airy. The center console with wooden finish around, MID, instrument panel, internally adjustable RVMs, AC unit, an audio system with MP3/ CD support and several other features add more to its comfort and convenience level. The multi adjustable front seats are very comfortable with good legroom, thigh and back support. There is a plenty of boot space as well.
The Mahindra Bolero derives power from a 2.5-litre diesel engine, which is now boosted with the M2DiCR technology. The low operating cost makes it very economical vehicle for buyers. This powertrain produces a peak power of 63bhp @ 3200rpm and 194.2Nm of torque. Combined with a five-speed manual transmission, it delivers an ARAI rated fuel economy of 12kmpl in city and 15.96kmpl on highways. However, in real driving condition, the car offers a mileage of 12.2kmpl (with AC) and 14kmpl (without AC). Having the new Micro Hybrid system, the engine switches to standby or automatic fuel saving mode. It accelerates 0-100kmph within 25.1 seconds, which isn’t impressive. It offers a top speed of 120kmph.
The overall handling and drivability is good. The ride quality is balanced. The SUV performs so well on urban roads as well as on highways. The power steering is light. The suspension system is tuned for better riding experience. The braking performance is impressive. The body roll is well-controlled, but NVH levels are quite high.
