On 1st August 2007, two new companies with whom BP's directly employed officers will have dealings were opened - BP Maritime Services (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. (BPMSS) and BP Maritime Services (Isle of Man) Limited BPMS (IOM).BP Maritime Services (Singapore) (BPMSS) is now the legal employer of all officers. It carries out and is responsible for all the HR functions applicable to sea staff, including global recruitment, development, training and performance, disciplinary and grievances of BP's marine employees and general HR functions relating to them. BP Maritime Services (Isle of Man) BPMS (IOM) provides logistical support to BPMSS including allocating crew to vessels, crew changes and management of travel, and travel arrangements and logistics for training courses. This activity is administered from the Isle of Man. The logistics management and interface with our Indian officers continues to be managed by Executive Ship Management (ESM). With the increase in fleet size, and with over 1,000 officers now employed under BPMSS contracts, these changes were timely to ensure we have the organisational capability to continue to attract, motivate and retain world-class talent and continue to deliver clean seas, safe ships and commercial success.

BP Shipping is the oldest continually operating heritage company in the BP Group Starting life as the British Tanker Company in 1915 and formed to carry products for the Anglo-Persian Oil Company. At 95-years-old, BP Shipping has seen many business and technological challenges since its inception. Its our business to be at the cutting edge of safety and our business values of clean seas, safe ships and commercial success remain as true today as they did in 1915. In 1916, the British Emperor became the first oil tanker designed to our company's specifications and we've pushed innovation ever since. The 1970s saw the first very large crude carriers (VLCCs) introduced to our fleet, and in 2007 we rolled out our Helios Award-winning fleet of GEM Class vessels. The GEM Class vessels, which carry liquefied natural gas (LNG), are powered by efficient dual-fuel diesel-electric engines.
