This suspension is commonly prescribed for both children and adults suffering from mixed bacterial and protozoal intestinal infections.
The combination targets multiple pathogens responsible for gastrointestinal disturbances, including Gram-negative bacteria, anaerobic organisms, and protozoa, while simethicone works to relieve associated gas-related symptoms. The formulation is palatable and easy to administer, especially in pediatric and geriatric populations.
Mechanism of Action:
Ofloxacin: Inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, blocking DNA replication and killing bacteria. It is effective against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms, including E. coli, Salmonella, and Shigella.
Metronidazole Benzoate: A prodrug converted into active metronidazole in the body, it disrupts DNA synthesis in anaerobic bacteria and protozoa like Entamoeba histolytica and Giardia lamblia.
Simethicone: Acts by reducing surface tension of gas bubbles in the stomach and intestines, helping to relieve bloating, discomfort, and flatulence by promoting easier gas elimination.
