DHAKAI JAMDANI SAREE was first crafted and designed with finest muslin cotton fabrics in Dhaka, Bangladesh in the Mughal period and its popularity was spread over world wide due to its outlook and intricate designs. Now a days, these sarees are being weaved in West Bengal by expert weavers with modified designs and crafts and are weaved and stitched in handloom. Dhakai Jamdani sarees are also named as Paddo Dhakai Jamdani, Jari Dhakai Jamdan etc.
BALUCHARI SAREE depicting mythological scenes of Ramayana or Mahabharatha or shows different Sculptures and Temples or different ancient memorable historical events on the body of saree. These sarees are being weaved and stitched in handloom with best quality of both silk and cotton fabrics mostly in West Bengal in large scale due to its popularity, gorgeous design.
PURE SILK SAREE ( Murshidabad, Garad, Tasar) is most popular saree of BENGAL as it is made of completely NATURAL thread of SILK WORM (Cocoon) and that is why it is often called as PURE SILK saree. These sarees are light weight. In the reign of British East India Company, demand of MURSHIDABAD SILK sarees were high in England and Europe due to its NATURAL PURITY. The silk threads are collected from natural larvae (cocoon) of silk worms which are mostly cultivated in the district of Murshidabad, West Bengal in the Sericulture Firms rich with mulberry plants i.e. tooth plants.
IKKAT SAREE is first designed and manufactured in a village Pochampally, Andhra Pradesh. Its speciality is to intricate mesmerised geometrical grid patters ( Dancing rhymes, elephants, flowers, parrots) spread all over the body of saree and is made of light soft cotton and silk yarn. It can actually have a hypotizing effect when look it directly to its design. These are mostly suitable for use in summer season due to its softness, light weight and cooling effect.
KHADI ( Khaddar) SAREE is a hand spun and hand woven saree, woven out from natural cotton fibre or natural silk or wool from ancient times. It is very much popular in India during SWADESHI movement led by our father of Nation Mahatama Gandhi in 1925. Khadi cloth is light, very comfortable and keep warm to wear due to its rugged texture. Khadi Sarees are woven in various colours, designs and decorated with different embroidery work to look beautiful and it is produced in India in large scale due to its popularity and gorgeousness.
LINEN SAREE is made from linen fibre which is made from fibres of Flax Plants. Manufacturing of linen fibre is very much laborious but the fibres are very strong, absorbent and dries faster than cotton. Linen sarees are valued for their exceptional coolness and freshness in hot and humid weather. Due to its lightness, beautiful look and texture, demand of Linen sarees are very high.
GADWAL SAREE are named in the name of town Gadwal in Andhra Pradesh where it was first woven and designed by the weavers of the Gadwal. The Body of Gadwal Sarees are woven with cotton fabric where as border are woven with silk fabric. Gadwal Sarees are very popular due to its beautiful matching of body and border with the portraits of temples and its architectures. Its golden zari work in border gives immense attractiveness.
TANT SAREE is made of light weight cotton fabric. One of most popular tant saree is Tangail Tant Saree in the name of a small town Tangail in Bangladesh. This saree is woven in hand loom in Bengal with best quality cotton threads which are very light weight. Thick border, beautiful Pallu( Aanchal) and floral artistic patterns in the body are the attractive features of this Sarees.
