What is it?
A novel remedy for baldness, ‘scalp micropigmentation’ is essentially the process of having your scalp tattooed with tiny dots that resemble the appearance of stubble, giving you the appearance of a ‘short-cut’ hairstyle. It’s touted as an ‘immediate solution to hair loss’ and there’s no invasive surgery, no scarring and no down time.
Why would I want one?
While there is hope for men suffering hair loss (PRP and FUE hair transplant) there’s little in the way of solutions for men who are totally bald.
What does it involve?
Scalp pigmentation doesn’t penetrate the skin as deeply as normal tattooing, and the colour can be matched to your previous hair colour and skin tone. Unlike tattoo ink, it’s natural and also retains its color – so you’re not going to start off with black dots and end up a redhead ten years later.
The practitioner will agree a suitable hairline with you, based on your previous one and face shape. Then, they will add hundreds of tiny dots over your scalp. A sitting typically lasts around three hours, and if the whole head is being treated a few may be required. The treatment is permanent, but it can be adjusted (and in some cases reversed). And don’t worry about going grey – if the rest of your hair does, the treatment can be touched up to match.
The hair growth will begin and continue to grow as it does on the rest of the beard, sideburns, and moustache.
