Department of Surgery was one of the first departments that was established at Ruby Hall Clinic in 1959 and has always been staffed by very competent and established surgeons. With the modernization of the hospital, addition of sophisticated laboratory facilities and state of the art imaging services round the clock, the department has grown leaps and bounds and is recognized as a modern and dependable Center for emergency and routine surgical work. It is now known as a tertiary referral center and caters for patients not only from Pune and Around but from all over the country and abroad also.

All types of major and very complicated procedures are carried out regularly in 12 operation suites equipped with modern operative instruments and anesthesia machines. It includes all types of abdominal surgery like major organ resections, laparoscopic minimal invasive procedures like cholecystectomies, hernias, appendicectomies, resections, thoracic surgery, cancer surgery including head and neck surgery, breast surgery, anorectal procedures with the use of staples, and major trauma and emergency work.

The operation theatres are looked after by dedicated and highly trained staff. The department of Surgery is also recognized by National Board for Studies in Surgery. More than 50 doctors have passed postgraduate examination in surgery over the years and have established themselves in various parts of the world.

Ruby Hall Clinic is one of the best centres in the country for treatment of patients with renal failure and end stage renal disease. The Department of Nephrology has three highly qualified, well-trained and experienced nephrologists. The dialysis unit has 7 modern haemodialysis machines and a trained nursing staff who treat patients round the clock. Approximately 25 patients receive dialysis treatment every day and the unit has done over 50,000 dialysis over the last 10 years. The institution was the pioneer in renal transplantation, performing the first living-related renal transplant and also the first cadaver renal transplant in Pune. It received a certificate in honor for performing the first cadaver transplant in the state of Maharashtra outside Mumbai. Till now 325 living related and cadaver transplants have been performed.
